I work 7 miles from home. It takes me 10 minutes to get there because I take backroads. I would probably take me 20 minutes if I took the main roads.
I've always wondered what its like to live like in the middle of no where, where it takes a while to get to a mall or something. ive lived in a city like atmospehere my whole life so everything has always been really close
carpooling to work is great way to meet your fellow worker. ive become good friends with a veteran because of it.
I kind of got the worst of both worlds. I live in a suburb type area.(lots of houses within 7 square blocks) but nothing else around for miles and miles. But the one good thing is nobody in the neighborhood bothers anyone. Last time i lived on my own i was on highway 9 in nj so i know what its like to be in a city enviroment.
Takes me roughly 10 minutes to get to work. About an 8 mile drive. I leave for work around 10:45 at night, so there isn't any problem with traffic.
damn, you piqued my curiosity and made me actually google directions to work to get a distance reading. apparently the drive is 13.5 miles. it usually takes me about 20 minutes. of course, traffic can have an effect on the time. not traffic congestion specifically; that rarely happens around here. but just other cars being on the road in general. the town i work in is weird; in the past when i've lived in relatively lawless areas, everyone drove as fast as they could everywhere they went. but for some reason, out here where there is less law and order than anywhere i've encountered, EVERYONE drives at least 10 mph below speed limit. and much slower than that is not unusual. so if you get stuck behind any other vehicle, it might take much longer to get anywhere.
Thats one of the things i had to get used to here. People stop at a stop sign and wait for it to turn green. I saw a car 3 blocks away one time sitting on the train track. She waited till i passed her before she made her turn. Its nice that there is so much open road because it would drive me crazy if i had to wait behind a car like that if there were a lot of stop signs.
