it is not a matter of being "brought togather", it is one religion that began with adam, of which christianity is its 23rd thousand year update, judaism, its 22nd, and islam its 24th. baha'i also is its 26th. abraham was also one of those updates. i think it was ether the one before or after noah, and at any rate before mosses.
^ I have no clue what you are talking about. But I'm sure no Rabbi, Priest, Shaikh or scientist would agree that this hypothetical religion of yours could've been around for 26 thousand years..
When are atheists going to stop thinking that most Christians in the world regard the Bible as the "direct word of god". The Bible is a collection of writings by a wide variety of humans over thousands of years, and is riddled with contradictions too numerous to list. Some of them are quite inspiring and perhaps inspired, and some are products of circumstances no longer pertinent. They were translated from a language not our own by humans. I'm in four different Christian bible study groups, and within each, not to mention among them, there's lots of lively difference about what the text means. Vive la difference!
Cman, allow me to respectfully correct you. As I understand you, the Law was in place until the Cross at Calvary. Yes. You say it was for them (Jews of that time) and us (everyone else). No. The Law was given to the Children of Abraham, Isaac and Jakob. In other words it was given to the Jewish people. Non-Jews were to follow the Noachite laws (something largely unmentioned). These are listed below: Idolatry is forbidden. Man is commanded to believe in the One G-d alone and worship only Him. Incestuous and adulterous relations are forbidden. Human beings are not sexual objects, nor is pleasure the ultimate goal of life. Murder is forbidden. The life of a human being, formed in G-d's image, is sacred. Cursing the name of G-d is forbidden. Besides honoring and respecting G-d, we learn from this precept that our speech must be sanctified, as that is the distinctive sign which separated man from the animals. Theft is forbidden. The world is not ours to do with as we please. Eating the flesh of a living animal is forbidden. This teaches us to be sensitive to cruelty to animals. (This was commanded to Noah for the first time along with the permission of eating meat. The rest were already given to Adam in the Garden of Eden.) Mankind is commanded to establish courts of justice and a just social order to enforce the first six laws and enact any other useful laws or customs. Non-Jews were never intended to follow Mosaic Law, contrary to what Christians believe today. Jews are contracted to follow Mosaic Law regardless of belief or personal conviction. Judaism is the only acceptable religion for a Jew. For Christians to see Jesus as freeing men from the Law, that is a part of their tenet and is appropriate for this forum (the Christian Forum, which by the way is used all too often to bash Christians. The idea of a Sanctuary Forum is superfluous). By the way, I like this thread a lot; and aside from the occassional child (I can deal with roorshack alot easier than the greatestiam), you guys and gals have been a boon to my learning. many thanks, JKHolman
