I just set down a book because I came to a new act and class is near starting. I read a bit, but it comes and goes in waves. I always read tons've comics - but I can't always find room for novels.
Stephen King is a great author. I don't like all of his work, some is rather boring or just disgusting. Some of his work is brilliant though. Books of his I have always recommend to people who don't like his work are. Salems Lot - Excellent book about a stranger that moves into town. Slowly the whole town is consumed. Great vampire book. The Talisman - A boys mother is dying and he must travel too different worlds to save her. Its a very moving book where you are cheering on the main character. The book is a collaboration with author Peter Straub. I have always recommend these to non king fans to give him another try.
I don't not like him because of a lack of exposure to him.... I don't like his writing style or his assumptions. I also really dislike that so many people read just Stephen King books and think it makes them a well read person... (no that is not to you specifically)...
I go through phases...and i think my last phase of not reading was due to the bombardment of reading i had to while in school. But that phase finally ended not too long ago!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading by choice! I tend to do prefer non-fiction as well. I'm on a Daniel Pinchbeck kick right now, but I'm also reading stuff about food and closing the food gap. My favorite fiction series is The Golden Compass (fuck the movie), The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass Recently though it's gotta be non-fiction, I'm in a learning mode and I want to take as much as I can in....As a World Religion major, I gotta say books about comparative religion and various aspects of spirituality and religion always tickle my fancy. and when i smoke and read, sometimes i find myself reading the same page over a few times
I forgot The Hitch Hikers Guide To the Galaxy! I have the series but only got through the first one. So hilarious at times.
On the subject of books in general... I could never even begin to say the things I have read... There is a book store that has been in the area since I can remember called The Highway Bookshop Besides the normal retail outlet for books, they were (or claimed to be) one of the largest used book sellers in Canada... The best part is that they had a discount book table... Basically just two 4x8 tables stacked with books.... Pick any three for a quarter.... As in 25 cents... They also took in trades of old books... they would give you a nickel (5 cents) credit per book you brought in... From that table alone, I have read hundred upon hundreds of books... I've never been too picky when going through it... anything that even mildly grabbed my attention I would grab (along with a couple of dozen others) them and take them home... The ones I enjoyed, went on my shelf, the ones I didn't got returned for more books.
Mostly read philosophy text for classes. Which I enjoy anyways usually so it is not a big deal. On my off time I try to read outside my studies as well though. It can be hard however because of how exhaustive school oriented reading can get. Favorite Book: House of Leaves
The Space Odyssey series by Arthur C. Clarke is fantastic. One author I can't really stand or get into is Hemingyway. I don't like his style, it's too choppy and simple. I did like reading about his life though. He certainly lead an interesting one.
Every once in awhile. I prefer fiction, mainly historical or fantasy. I'm picky where it comes to books and series as well, so sometimes after I finished something great (generally a series, one of my favs is A song of ice and fire) I can't bother to find something else cause I want something that's as equally great
I like books. I'm reading Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon right now. It's not an easy read, but I like it so far and I'm slowly getting the feel and flow of the book.
Fuck yes Broony, I love Brian Jacques, actually met him in person when he came to my city in 4th or 5th grade for a book signing. Waited an hour for him to sign a copy of Mossflower, Marlfox, and Mattimeo, and to make the best hand fart noises I've ever heard lol. Missed out on meeting Christopher Paolini in 6th grade when he came to my city, twas really lame as I love the Inheritance series. Harry Potter was the shit, I loved finishing the 7th book before it actually came out due to a nice torrented copy that had a pdf file of every page. Was a bitch to read on the computer, but totally worth it to be able to spoil it for people on the internet with direct quotes Some of the Chronicles of Narnia books were awesome, while some were lame. An amazing fantasy series that hardly gets the recognition it deserves is Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles. Talk about epic story. I'm also a fan of Aldous Huxley, Eric Blair (George Orwell), some things by Stephen King, Anthony Horowitz (yes I do like the Alex Rider books lol), JAMES PATTERSON <3, Agatha Christie, Kenneth Opel (the Silverwing books were damn good), and Moliere's Misanthrope in written form rather than acted out.
The Redwall series are great. I really liked them as a kid. Even though they are for the younger group, still good reads.
The Pern series is another good one actually. Actually, that is one of the recurring themes in most books I like... pern, earth's children and the like... Books that delve into the why and how people do things in narrative fashions...
I got books, gots madz books. In fact I'm reading every single one right now. Actually no I'm just reading one right now.
I never like reading a bunch of books at once unless they are some form or required reading... When I said I love series books, I should have said, I like them when they are finished... It drives me insane reading books that are only part way through the series... the wheel of time and the seeker (sword of truth) were the worst for that... I hated waiting for the next ones to come out. It is really bad with the wot seems jordan had to go and die before finishing the last book...
heh, waiting on a cliffhanger is nothing, after Plains of Passage, it took Jean Auel forever to get Shelters of Stone written, and everyone said she had a heart attack and died. i am glad she didnt die, but it fucked me up for a good long while.
Best book I ever read: East of Eden(and I don't even really like Steinbeck's other works that much) Runners up: The Jungle and Oil! from Upton Sinclair
