How The Hell Do You Spend So Much Time Here

Yeah, try not to spend that whole $0 paycheck in one place. ;)

I don't see any purpose in posting in a forum so huge that everybody and everything gets swallowed up and lost very quickly. Sometimes I read those sites, but I don't bother with creating an account. You have to have a huge ego to think anybody will ever remember you there. Also, most of them now have ridiculously puritan rules. Fuck that shit.

HF is like The Breakfast Club. I'm much like Allison. Recall near the end of the movie when everyone was asking the other what they did to get the in the hole punishment on Saturday. Allison's response: "I didn't have anything better to do."

X gives me a headache. I just can't even. It's honestly the same stupid shit as on any other forum, but with too much content and a popularity contest thrown in to boot. Nope.

Well I wasn't around back then, bt I'm young and spend a lot of time on here. I hate X and most other forums filled with idiots my age. If you think the conversations in those places are better, when most of them devolve into name calling pretty quickly from what I can tell (and not even very original name calling), then i dont know what to tell you.

It's like a real community here, or a family. Perhaps one with way too many weird uncles, but that's still better than a bunch of assholes yelling over each other.

I'm not really a forum person, this is the only one I've ever frequented. Most of the regular posters here are smart with a twisted sense of humor and aren't afraid to let their freak flags fly. What's not to like?

It's easier than talking to people face to face...you don't get your lights punched out. Oh please, be my friend, I didn't mean nothin' by it.

There are posters in here that are funny, smart, dumb, smart-ass, gentle, caring, oblivious, mean------just as in real life. I don't know---maybe it's silly for me to be here at my age. But I signed on in 99 or 2000 and it has been interesting to see great posters come and go--never to return. Same with the nasty ones.
I'm a loner by choice, even though I can talk to anyone on any basis---I haven't made one adult friend since I moved here 10 years ago. So as pathetic as it seems--it's kind of comforting
to see posts from certain members that you know will mean something, serious, funny and /or interesting. There IS kind of a core community, with some sharing their lives and doings and I know that there are folks that have been helped by coming here.

I have gone on a couple of sites other than THF over the years----and promptly asked either to leave---or straighten up! Yeah---fuck that. It does get tedious to read the butt-gaping
and other bullshit like that------but---to each their own. So, that's my story---like it or otherwise.

Do you regularly tell people in person what you honestly think? I don't, except for a few trusted friends.

i honestly don't know...other than some assholes here which I am tired of dealing with, I come back for the nice people I have met. I visited a huge forum once that could swallow itself up once and its own ego....and i left after 10 minutes....could not stand those egos, if you think the egos here are bad.....
I am a pretty loyal person....so I just keep coming here for almost two years now.
yeah...keep beating my head against the same wall, too.... :D

Funny thing is after my time here, I tend to speak my mind more often, much to the chagrin of the wife.
Completely laid into a guy at a bank whenever we needed to cash a check somebody made out to the wife instead of the business.
asshole calls this lady up and tells her that we are "attempting to cash a check and he needed to know if it was legitimate" and of course the alarms bells went off in this ladies head until we basically shouted over the bank guy to her on the phone and reminded her who we were.
I tried to calmly explain to him that by saying "attempting to cash" gives the connotation that we were up to no good. He simply could have said that we had a check and he needed to confirm it since we didn't have an account there.
He gave some lame assed, retarded reply and I went off on him with the wife punching me in the arm.
anybody in customer service should have a good if not excellent command of the English language or they should shut the fuck up.

anyway, yeah, I do tend to speak out much more now than I did before hanging around HF.

  16. I first signed on to Hippy.com in 2002 while I was unemployed (oddly I am unemployed now for the first time since then). I submitted the first chapter of my book which is still there http://www.hippy.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=187 I was looking for a place to hang out since the Marijuana Debate chat room on AOL was circling the drain after more than 10 years. I have been in chat rooms since 1984 and still think they are as brilliant as they were then. But I dropped out for a while and returned in 2005 when hip forums had a chat room. It was pretty cool since you didn't have to be a member and could use whatever name you liked (anyone remember YankerMcShanker?).

Personally, I see this as one of the more modern forms of community. It's a bit of the 21st century that some of us got to experience in the 20th. The one thing I regret is that over time I lost touch with so many people. I missed some of them so much that I added them to the book as characters and put the rest of the book up in the writers forum http://www.hipforums.com/forum/topic/455666-the-epic-stoner-novel-continues/ (second shameless book plug).

Since I normally write for a living it's no big deal to have hip forums open in another window. If I had a real job I doubt I'd be here except in the evenings. I've logged in from every continent but Australia and I thank God (and Skip) that the forums aren't coated with useless graphic elements that slow a site down. Sometimes I have horrible web connections that will barely load CNN, but Hip Forums pops right up!

I for one think hip forums is unique in that there is a community to the forum. That's not to say that doesn't exist everywhere, but X IMO was always too large for me to "fit in". I'll still sometimes browse it, but there's nobody i recognize or any body i've met through there.

Grasscity seems pretty decent, but that site has quite a bit of turnover of new people who don't stay.

Hip forums has just enough people to spice it up, and for you to meet a good number of people.

Sometimes the topics are a bit rubbish though :p
