Wizard, OMG! I feel terrible now for the dogs that the pitbull tore apart and for the pitbull.... Pitbulls are not mean by nature....but just like most pets, reflect their owners. It is all too sad......very sad...... Ari, I don't know what I would do if I were you in this situation. Do you think Tank will rip any other dog or human apart? If so, some kind of measures need to be taken pronto.....only I am not sure what.... Invite your neighbors over for supper and have a long heart to heart talk with them?
I guess i can appreciate some of this, but seriously Aerianne, why are you agonizing over this? It is pretty straight forward, finish the report and screw the wanna-be gangsta and his dog. If his dog repeatedly attacks other dogs AND people, it should be put down, no if and's or buts. This really shouldn't be such a moral dilemma for you, actually you should have shot the dog when it was in your yard and attacking, because regardless of how much you agonize over it, that dog is going to end up dead relatively soon, hopefully before it kills someone. chances are that if the cops showed up while the dog was out and attacking things, it would have gotten a bullet that night.
Someone tell the neighors this and give them and the dog a chance! tell the neighbors their dog is going to wind up dead...... have you? At least one warning......in a nice way. It is awful that they do not know better, but they don't.....
sadly if it has been trained to fight and that behavior is reinforced, which I'm willing to bet it is, the dog is damaged goods and not fit to be around people or other animals. sad, but it is true.
I decided to write a very serious letter to Tuck's owner and the owner of the other problem dogs. I explained how their animals behaved outside of their own yards and how no one wanted to see any dog impounded or any owner fined but that we could not risk injury from this vicious behavior. I told them that Animal Control was wanting witnesses to subpoena for court and how I was asking for one more chance for them and their dogs but that if it ever happened again we would go to court and testify. The Animal Control officer came to my house this morning and we agreed that she would go deliver Tuck's owner a "Final Warning". I told her about the other problem dogs and about the letter I was sending. She thought this was the right next step. Tuck's owner came and spoke with us at the bus stop today. He seemed humble and said he'd have to put Tuck up in the garage inside a crate. Poor Tuck.
At least you gave him another chance and maybe the guy will take it seriously. I'd say you've done all you can at this point. Whatever happens from here will be on him.
I agree, poor Tuck, but please don't be taken in by bullshit. sounds more like he is trying for sympathy from you so you don't pursue it further. Basically he is laying a guilt trip on you over this....FUCK HIM, it's his fault if the dog has to be locked up, and Tuck is the loser in this no matter how it shakes out. what pisses me off is that from the sounds of it that poor dog probably only has one fate in store for him, dying by injection or bullet........fucking owner should be drawn and quartered!!!!!
