The 20% figure is just an example. The ratio varies across countries, the important point is that it is common across all banking systems and has nothing to do with lending out more money than you have.

Your quote deals with capital adequacy, which is a completely separate concept.

Uhmm... the national treasury is trillions and trillions of dollars in the hole.
That is the heart of the matter.

    Since there is no money,
when banks "fail", the government bails them out with money out of "thin air".

Guess who gets to foot the bill??? ;)

I know a lot of people who were over extended mortgages, car payments ect the typical “American dream” or mainstream life. This rising cost of everything has just crippled them hard.. They were barely making it and then gas doubles food goes up and it is throwing them over the edge.

My immediate family and me have always lived modestly and we don’t take out loans and things like that (which means we are poor renters, lol). So for us it is less vacations, beer and luxury stuff.

I really don’t care, there is a lot of stuff going on with our government and this country that I’m not happy with and as long as the general public is happy comfortable and well-fed things will never change.

All changes and revolutions happen when the people get dissatisfied.

About the economy it is hard to say I don’t know about global economies so I just hear tid bits here and there some people say that the dumping rebate checks in the economy is a workable stagy and some say it is stupid, I don’t have enough knowledge in the financial world to have an educated opinion.

I guess we will see in a year or so.

No, it's even more simpler than that, do what the Nazis did.

Make a social/racial war against a moderately wealthy group of people, kill them and take their net worth.

Or, you could do what the Stalin did.

Centralize the main populace and starve the many people outside that main populace.

Or, you could just have a country greatly reduce its trade and inherit an independent economy relient on the nation itself.

Do you think Switzerland is going to suffer? Uh, no, learn kids, learn.

I did a quick check - imports as a % of GDP are 33% in Switzerland and 14.5% in the USA. So Switzerland is twice as dependent on imports.

    What a bunch of posers..
That why those army knives are so cheap.

You know those guys talk so much shit “we could blow out all the bridges and be armed in 20 minutes blabla...”

But Hitler just walked in there and took it over when he felt like it.

Buddy, I've been to Switzerland, and I plan to move there in the near future, I've done research of my own.

Now tell me wise guy where the majority of Swiss imports come from huh?

The U.S. is a nation of, uh, let's see 300 Million People.

Also, it has how may trillions?

That's right, the U.S. is the world's biggest importer.

Switzerland may have a third imports based on GDP but just look where they come from.

The Swiss were on military alert and shot a few planes down and such but they were still Hitler’s little bitch though out the war. They also got a few allied planes.
They tried to claim they were “neutral” but the Germans ran trains of military supplies though Switzerland and did a lot of banking transactions. The Swiss basically were little bitches to Hitler.
Pretty much when ever Germany told them to do something they did it. Switzerland was a vacation/bank resort for high German officials during the war.

The Swiss have some good things going but they are not as cool as they think.

Getting back on track reducing individual debt would have done more than the rebates, but it's never going to happen under this administration. Legislating usary is something this administration is against, because part of their fortunes are based on it. Much as capping the prices of the petroleum and energy industries will never happen although they continue to reap the hugest profits in history. Instead this administration will argue for drilling in one of the few pristine wildlife areas of the world, and probably by executive order grant those same petroleum companies immunity from prosecution should they defile them.

VOTE NO ON DRILLING IN ANWR!

This is so clueless. First of all, we tried price controls in the 1970s. Remember the lines?[IMG] Price Controls don't work!

Secondly, how are you going to impose price controls on Iran, Russia, and Venezuela? The own the oil, they sell it to us. They are charging $125 a barrel. What's your plan Gardener, how are you going to make them cut the price?

Hey I remember the 70s, I remember when we were worried about gas above 39 cents a gallon. The lines weren't the problems, we outlined how the petroleum companies could up the prices. Then Reagan and the repubican's caved.

We have reserves don't we? Why don't we use them to manipulate the price? Isn't that what they are for? When Exxon and other companies accomplish record profits, and still recieve national tax exemptions shouldn't they be leveraged to use some of the profits towards lowering their provision of gasoline. Or should we look for a lower provider? And no ANWR is off the table!

We spent our children on your war, now you expect us to spend half our working capital for your profits. Time to ask why?

What has this war on terrorism/oil, done for us? Isn't it time to ask for accountability, instead of standing back and watching the rich get richer?

Or is this war in Iraq all about the PSAs? Now the energy industry wants the resources in ANWR to leverage their position in the OPEC. Not going to happen. Price controls ask yourself who is controlling those prices. It's worse than the mob.

They were neautral, their media had a policy not to write any articles in bias towards either side of the war.

Banking, oh, what a mystery, anybody can do banking in Switzerland, they didn't have a ban on anybody, thus the term " neautral " wiseass.

    Vacationing, again, ANYBODY can.

    What else you got?

Do your own research, the basic facts are Switzerland's low crime rate, great independent economy, what more do you need?

    Life expectancy? HDI?

    The air?

    Such an awesome country.
