Well i officially "started" them today. I just washed my hair with soap and havent touched it since. Its wet so its all separated (my hair likes to do that) so i kinda get an idea of what its gonna look like (if i use my imagination). I like it. My mom is going to kill me.

I'm very into body mods, I have 5 tattoos and 9 piercings. However fake tits make me wanna throw up. I am VERY proud of my natural 34DDs.

Regarding the whole dirty dreads thing..
I used to have dreads a couple years back and while they can be cleaned, it's a fucking pain. Once your dreads are mature, getting water in is pretty easy, but getting it out is another story. The dreads take a long ass time to dry inside and out, and if you don't get them thoroughly dry, mold can develop inside of your dreads. This is too much of a hassle so more often than not people with dreads will only wash their hair once a week, if that.

The high maintenence is the main reason I cut 'em; they can get cleaned, but it's a fucking pain man...

i unno how it is where you are, but in texas during summertime, i would just sit outside for about an hour and they dried to the core. wintertime, however, i'd have to cut back to about 2 washings a week. not fun in the winter.

I have a sit down hair dryer I got from my grandma that I use to dry my dreads properly. It looks like the hair dryers they use in salons..I love it!
If I didn't wash my hair it would make my skin break out from having all the dirt, sweat, smoke, pollen, flying dead skin cells that float in the air and every other airbourne element that sticks to anything solid.
Once I didn't wash my hair for three days and when I did, the water coming off my head was pure black. It was so gross.

Sorry, I have no pictures of myself on the computer, nor will I ever. No digital camera, no scanner, no want to know others jack off to my pictures, no-one to steal my tattoos (artwork), use my photo as their own in a different website.....etc, and so on.

*I am the mysterious poster online* You hear me but you don't see me. I'm like Charlie from Charlie's angels, except he used a voice box and I use a computer. lol

Good luck! I didn't weigh in before, but I think you'll look good with dreads since you have a nice looking face.

I wonder how much a salon would charge if someone with dreads just wanted to use the sit down dryer...? I don't know though, I used one once and that thing burned the hell out of my scalp.

It might have been the humidity, it might have just been my hair, but I do remember looking on forums and finding posters with similar problems. I was living right by San Francisco at the time, so that very well could have had a part in it.

You will either have people who love your dreads or hate them with a thousand burning suns. The ones who hate them, won't be very nice about it so be prepared for it.

I think I've gotten far more flak for having dreads than any of my tattoos. Which baffles me, honestly. I just dun get it.
