You forgot Puerto Rico. Hell the citizens of Washington DC are limited in their representation and voting rights. And the answer is no they are not counted as states they are territories, and DC is considered a district.
You ask what I'd like to see changed in the constitution. That's easy an amendment that my generation worked long and hard to have placed before the congress, but which has yet to be ratified. It lacks three states. I would vote for Obama if he would push the ratification of ERA. The Equal Rights Amendment! Look at one of the states, Utah that hasn't ratified it, why would they? They love the Mormon principles of women as chattle and their right to male polygamy. And I don't think there are any female polygamists in Utah, correct me if I am wrong. Let's bring it up to today's candidates including Hillary since she now wants to be nominated on the floor of the convention, and see where they stand. Why shouldn't your wives, mothers, daughters sisters have the same rights as males do? Hell let's ask GW and Cheney where they stand on it! Hey don't let's leave out Bill, I think his stance would be informative.
i wouldnt change it at all,,i just wish they would actually recognize it as the law of the land.. change it?? why they dont even acknowledge it anymore.. "ITS JUST A GODDAMNED PIECE OF PAPER".. remember?
We hear all this fluff and flack about abortion, why do we never hear how women are still not acknowledged as having equal rights. Races got their due, when do women?
you mean you didnt know about that aristartle?? i mean i know its been mentioned by rat and i at least a dozen times on here since it was put in place.. i know i know,,you were to busy debunking our wild conspiracies to actually catch the facts...
Executive Orders can only be empowered when congress refuses to employ their rights of oversight. Like they did when we started a preemptive war with Iraq. We've seen more and more of this in the last eight years. We've seen our congress vote again and again to fund this war, and to sit back and let Cheney and friends set our energy policies. Vote those you elected to protect your rights out when they come up for reelection no matter what party, if they didn't perform, they don't deserve to be reelected. Experience does not buy the taxpayer anything more than lip service if the lobbyists control their votes.
No, I'm not even American, remember? I don't give shit. *speaks with French accent* I knew about this, but I had never read the entire piece of legislature like I did today. I knew the basic facts - and then sort of forgot about them. I get busy, you know. Plus my memory recall is so flippin' bizarre at times it won't let me think about what happened yesterday. And since when are you a wild conspiracy theorist??
This annoys me a bit cause I've been there. How the fuck is matt or anyone else (me.. whoever...) supposed to KNOW what to do... I think talking about it DOES help.. it's not like matt or me or anyone else can just go FIX THINGS... the solution is much more difficult to grasp.. but id say the power is in numbers. we have the fucking fight to overthrow the government. truly. if it becomes dangerous, oppressive...um duh? seriously.... becomes? its BEEN THAT WAY. I say overthrow the bitches.. have enough. we have every right to do so ... but we need people. This annoys me
What exactly about the constitution needs changing every 20 years? A lot of it is pretty basic and it shouldn't be touched... otherwise we'll be going BACKWARDS as a people. That doesn't make any sense to me. You post links to what Thomas Jefferson has said (which is kind of insulting, btw). The country needs to change to the times, absolutely, but some things should not change because these are such fundamental checks and balances. Like Luckystripe has said... what we say isn't useless simply because we don't provide a solution. Sometime being an alarmist in of itself speaks of a solution and that is to stop and think, take a step back, and analyze what we are doing to ourselves so that we can revert back to our earlier, more clear, plans. The constitution, no matter what changes you make to it, are utterly useless unless they are followed. There is the system that we SAY we are following, and then their is the reality of the situation. It's not the fault of the system, it's the fault of corruption. No system is magically immune to corruption and their is no magic way to prevent it. I don't know what we can do to correct this other than following our own promises which we haven't. It's WE THE PEOPLE that turns intent into reality, not WE THE CONSTITUTION. Without our own will, the constitution is nothing.
any time the CPI increaeses over 3% a year, all serving members of both houses of congress are ineligible for re-election
The CPI has nothing to do with Congress. It has to do with the Federal Reserve, which is private and doesn't answer to anybody but its private owners. The CPI is also not an accurate representation of inflation, as it does not include core inflation. We are told the inflation rate is 3%, when it's more like 11-13%.
