Each neurotransmitter does all sorts of things. It's not as simple as one disorder being due to a high level of this or that. It's much more complex than that.
yes, but there are signifcant deviations in one or the other...schizophrenia being dopamine...so yes, there are many disorders classified as having its origin based in certain neurotransmitter pathways, biologically at least...of course there are always psychological and environmental aspects to consider...
i think i follow you bc i had a similar theory... with me just thinking too much... one of my friends had a HORRIBLY bad mushroom trip and seems to have deveolped ptsd from it... all he has to do now is smoke too much pot and he will have panic attacks and sometimes he has flashback effects. he says its really scary. lol. it has pretty much ruined frying for him all together...
^^ that sucks...good that ur along the same lines of thinking tho...lol...that could be HPPD not PTSD simple cuz a drug was involved, which rules out PTSD. so good news is it should lessen n eventually go away...according to my theory so let me kno if it does go away...lol...that could help me out..might take a little while tho..when was the experience?
ptsd can be caused by anything traumatic happening... including a bad trip... i dont think in his particular case that is hppd... he discribes the trigger as a sucking feeling like hes being pulled into a back hole... when he just gets too baked and started getting the spins or something he has panic attacks b/c the feelings are similar. he says the flashbacks are really uncommon and have only happened a few times. but on the topic of hppd alone... im not a scientist but i have always had a deep love for it and i feel i have a pretty good grasp on a lot of things... As far as i know when your a child the majority of your brain has activity... you know how people say you learn the best as a child, like the most effective way to learn another language is to do it as a child... and as you get older your brain activity narrows down and specializes so that its more or less not waisting energy on things it doesnt need. I believe that in introduction of LSD to the brain Reactivates those dormant parts of your brain, it more or less brings the dormant synapses back into working order and and as result you get perma-fry.. it also causes you to start learning like a child again, thats why people pick up skills better after doing L, thats part of the reason that i experienced an advancement in my artwork and my spacial reasoning... and probably why i picked up DJing so fast. the reason it subsides over time is the same reason as when we are children... eventually your brain starts narrowing down and specializing again... those extra synapses arent firing anymore and the visual and psychological effects go away leaving you a much more educated and enlightened person afterwards. i dun know.. its just a theory but it makes sense to me.
Don't over do your tripping and don't think your invincible from HPPD if everything goes back to baseline perfectly the first few times you screw with the stuff, best advice really.
I didn't think any parts of ur brain actually go dormant, and ppl learn better as children b/c the brain is developing rapidly still and its able to adapt very quickly and much easier to new experiences than it does when ur older. However, interesting note, i just watched a documentary talking about how they kno now that the brain is still producing new neurons and making new connections well through adulthood. look further into that cuz if we can harness that kinda growth maybe it could eventually be localized and we can stop many disorders by makin the brain make new connections!! my theory for the cause of hppd deals with ur brains ability to adapt and change (plasticity) as well as how that process is affected with high frequency stimulation. but about ur friend, just the fact that drugs are involved should not allow for a PTSD diagnosis i think, thats y i say hppd. also, a lot of hppd flashbacks are brought about with weed so that's a common point.
i kno many ppl that have tripped hundreds of times and have been free of hppd. its a very tricky disorder. hopefully someone (hopefully me) will be able to shed some light on it so we can do more than speculate...
I've had a light form of hppd for about 2 years now, ever since i had a real bad mushroom trip. It was real bad for about 2 weeks where i would have 3 rainbow lines through my vision that would sort of pulse. Once that went away i was left with a static layer over everything that will pulse change colors and give the illusion its moving (Its hard to explain its not very colorful or apparent but it defnetly was not there before i had that bad trip). I dont notice it as much any more ive grown to live with it if i smoke dope or take any sort of drug it usually intensifies. I had not taken alot of mushrooms before this maybe 4 or 5 times and i had never tried acid so for me it was not caused by prolonged use but either by the bad trip (which plagued my mind for weeks) or the volume of mushrooms i ate
hey billy, so over the two years it has lessened? does it seem to keep lessening or is it stayin the same?
http://www.physorg.com/news4064.html it doesnt prove my point by any means but it helps with it a little.. this article, along with quite a few more i found suggest that your brain does specialise and parts of it do become more or less dormant.. or not really used... as do other parts of your brain mature and are used more as you age...
it doesnt say they dont get used, it just says the certain regions become more active and some less active....not dormant though, i dont think u can have inactive (for all purposes dead) brain regions...
NeuroDr: id say its lessened from how it initially came on but in the last year its hard to say if it has lessened any more or if i have just become more used to it
if your worried about hppd, then you probably just shouldnt even take it. when i took acid, out of the 3 times i have taken it, i never visually tripped, but once in a while i just see something randomly. just like a streak of light or something. and also i tend to catch myself not focusing my vision correctly, just as if im bein too lazy to focus it. but lately i havent been doin it so much
Wow, I always noticed this term being thrown around but never knew what it was. Interesting Even to this day, 7 years ago was my last trip I can see trails occasionally and some patterns in carpets/ceilings etc, breathing walls etc, alterations in colors.... I really do not call this a disorder though, it doesn't effect my life other than having the ability to see a bit of a different perspective on things, I do find myself noticing patterns both man made and naturally occuring more than before. I just think your brain figures out a new way to see things, and these are the side effects of a little bit deeper perception on things, thats all. I did worry about it in the past, but at the time I did party a lot and my body was worn down from doing a lot more than just cid. I have probably taken more than most overall though, I am thinking somewhere around 150 hits or so total in my life.
What causes schizophrenia is unknown, however it is speculated that too many dopamine receptors causes it. As for HPPD I wouldn't call it a disorder unless it affects you during your life, such as work or school or other tasks, as that is a requirement for OCD. I definitely have HPPD affects after I took 5 hits of really good acid less than 2 weeks ago only 2 days after 3 hits of the same which was a very good experience but very bad trip. It comforts me to know that it will likely go away, I can handle most the affects just fine. Although I get an affect that hasn't been mentioned here, when I look at objects in the dark after about 5 seconds they start to disappear. I can get a wall with a few posters to look blank. I had this mildly after the second time I tripped but it went away, so I'm sure this will subside or go away, the main reason I mind this is because I don't know how this will affect my driving in the dark. Does anyone else get this affect?
