Earlyxsunsets you have no clue what you are talking about. So stop being an arrogant ass.

    1. I am against having animal that is very sensitive to its habitat for some kids pleasure. Having an animal takes alot of responsibility, and dedication. Did I mention these toads are MESSY!
    2. He has never even tried the drug. I suggested to him that he experience it first.
    3. I did not spend most of my time talking how painful it was. I expressed a variety of reasons why the toad would be much happier free. Stop being overexagerrative. I was just bieng honest from my experience with them. How would you like it if this big weird undescribable thing appeared out of nowhere and started squeezing you so stuff started oozing. If this guy really really wants to do that at least he will find one out here, milk it, and never see it again. If he had a captive one it would endure weekly to bi weekly squeeze the gland sessions. Not a fun life. Not a fun life sitting in some glass terrarium when you are a gigantic toad, meant to be hibernating 8 months out of the year. When you enjoy sweet arizona monsoons and socializing with your own kind.
    3. And last of all your post towards me shows how little you know about these animals. I was not condoning an animal to be unprotected in the wild. Most of these toads have never been harassed by a predator, yet they still have the back up. And the posion is secreted allover the their skin. The glands however or power spots, there are also EXTRA GLANDS on the FRONT and BLACK legs that people neglect to milk.

So I say your rude comments are only a reflection of yourself.

    Adios and Peace

A nice deep heartfelt hug would do you good.

The OP was asking questions, and I answered them with honesty and good intention.

    Hello.

I do have a dog and two cats. These animals are domesticated and it is a mutual relationship. We benefit eachother, and we are all quite happy and to be together. A toad on the other hand could care less about you. It doesnt rely on you, and it doesnt need you. If you let it go it would hop right off into the sunset and never look back.

Yes I am 22 and female, and I do not claim to know everything. But I have spent alot of time with these toads, and I enjoy watching them on fine summer nights.

I do not smoke pot anymore...However I wanted to say that psilocybin and pot are especially intelligent. They are making use of us. We have managed to spread them all over the world. They are reproducing because of us, and thriving. The captive Bufo on the otherhand will never breed unless injected with a hormone, and provided the right artificial environment. Anyway, These organisms(ganja) has figured out to create a very pleasurable chemical that draws animals to it. Deer, bears, bees, humans, birds,... Thus when ingested the seeds are spread. Fruit for example is very sweet and delicious. The plant creates these fruits to be eaten, and in turn other creatures poop the seeds. Spreading the plant. Spores are also spread from animal contact, especially droppings. Many fungi also rely on insects to mate. Some even produce smells like rotting fish, or sour milk to draw insects. Flowers make beautiful scents that mimic certain insect pheromones to attract them to pollinate... Do you understand???

Venom quality is the same in the back legs. Just you get less than the main glands on the toads back.

    Here are some sources.
8 or more months from Reptile Magazine. Please read this article. It just depends on our monsoon. That is what brings them out. They are in the ground waiting for the rain to reach them. It has been very dry here lately.
    http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/reptiles/Breed_Profiles.aspx?aid=21971&cid=3683&search=
"Wildlife hidden for 10 months or more suddenly appears, including Arizona’s Sonoran Desert frogs and toads. This is also the time of the year when I turn from being a diurnal administrator at the Arizona Game and Fish Department to also being a nocturnal photographer and naturalist."
    Reptiles of AZ.com:
    http://www.reptilesofaz.com/Turtle-Amphibs-Subpages/h-b-alvarius.html
Do a search on "Bufo Alvarius monsoon/hibernation"

    Surviving the Sonoran Article
    http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Publications/ZooGoer/2005/1/survivingsonoran.cfm
"Amphibians, so reliant on water, have evolved several adaptions to survive the Sonoran. Couch's spadefoot (Scaphiopus couchii), the northern casque-headed frog (Pternohyla fodiens), and the Sonoran Desert toad (Bufo alvarius) dig as many as three feet underground and remain in a hole for nine to ten months each year, then emerge with the summer rains to feed and breed in temporary ponds. Following breeding, Couch's spadefoot eggs may hatch within 15 hours and metamorphose into froglets about two weeks later, before the ponds disappear."

I dont know why I would make you laugh, or why you think I would waste my time lying to you.
I live in Arizona, and biology is a great passion of mine. I have no problem sharing information and having a good discussion. Perhaps you need to learn more about this toad youself before you try to mock me.

    Have a good evening.

LOL, pot and shrooms, do not have a consciousness. They do not make decisions. come on man, you say you laugh at cosmic, I think she's one of the only ones in here whose posts aren't laughable. You compare a wild animal that has NEVER been domesticated with domestic animals, as well as plant-life. But she's the comedian here.

Lol. As if you in Jersey have any idea yourself about these toads, let alone even seen one. Not to mention that fact that all you manage to do is post a couple of sentences of negative spludge...And who here is the one full of crap???[IMG] Actually, you should be reading my posts, and learning. Unless you have ADD, or you are a just an arrogant testosterone filled boy trying to feel better about your sad self. Hmmm....

Actually I do have more than just ANY idea on these toads. I am majoring in biology, and these are one of my favorite animals to observe during the monsoon. [IMG]
Seriously though, these toads are generally not bothered by predators because the predators have enough SENSE. These toads only come out at night.
The major predators to Bufo alvarius out here is....*drum roll* human devolopment thats just turning the lovely desert into concrete, and buildings, and your random dumb canine which either dies, or learns to never mess with toady again.

And if you are that thick headed feel free to contact them and tell them what you know about Bufo:

BTW, as I scanned through the history of all your previous posts on hipforums every single one was you being rude. I think you are nothing but a troll.

    to ummmm return to (zoo)pharmacology:
the primary alkaloid in the "venomous" salivary secretion of B. alvarius (colorado river toad) is 5MeO-DMT ("cohobine")...
the cane toad which infests australia (B. marinarus) has as its main alkaloid 5HO-DMT ("bufotenine")...
both of these toads (and a number of other toads & frogs) have in their venomous secretions various cardiotoxic glycosides, which are pretty much destroyed by the pyrolysis ("smoking") of the dried spit...

HOWEVER ------> eating the dried saliva, or using it as an ingredient of aya-brews, or licking the live toad is an REAL invitation to the emergency room, mmmmkay?

    Hello Gnrm23.

But you do not obtain the "venom" from the toads saliva, but by squeezing the glands located on near the head, legs, and arms. I have never heard of anyone smoking the toads saliva, and I am not sure how you would obtain enough.

Check out Erowids Article. It has great pictures, and explains everything accurately, and shows pictures how to "milk" bufo alvarius.

If the Bufo toad is at all similar to yopo, you probably wont like it. I know theyre both primarily 5-ho-dmt, with some 5-meo. Yopo is not really psychedelic at all, nor is it hallucinatory. its pretty unpleasant, and you vomit. So, do it if you are interested in shamanism and divination, otherwise try some other readily available entheogen.

don't believe the guy was looking for a moral lecture but rather some simple advice.

Sorry I can't provide you with any :p

Though growing shrooms is relatively cheap and the means to get started are completely legal, $150 bucks would be a lovely headstart.
