Actual music coming from a car stereo instead of the thumping and low-pitch rumble. (If you live in any urban/suburban area with a bunch of wannabe gangstas, you'll know what I mean)
i still hear that fairly often. it baffles me too, because it's always when i call someone's cell phone who i know has voice mail and/or call waiting, or when i call a business with multiple phone lines. no idea what is going on to cause a busy signal to come through in any of those cases.
i don't know about the 2 cents, but you COULD get trains and buses into and out of the town of less then a thousand people i grew up in. the same day. and yes, watch a movie at the little movie house while you were there. and eat at a restaurant that wasn't a franchise. both before and after the movie. and all that for less then $20.00, including transportation. oh i see what you mean, someone saying the 2 cents. well the were stretching it a bit even then. but a candy bar was a dime in my day. and a nickle in my parents time. and i don't mean a shrunken down sample size either, but the size that cost $2.00 now. a city bus fare that included one transfer cost $.25, and for $.50 you could get an all day. and that was the regular fare. one thing i haven't heard anyone over 60 tell anyone under 20 for a while is the one about having to walk 3 miles to school every day. well we had a school bus, and it was free, but if you missed it, then yes, in the little country town where i lived, it really was a three mile walk.
