Pfff, of course! Obviously! It reminds me of flight of the conchords. Binary solo 10001000100001101001110111
Nerds are cool. Especially when you can use their knowledge to accomplish something. I will hang out with nerds any day.
I've always been a nerdly information hound. I'd rather watch documentaries about history or science than anything else on tv, cept maybe a good football game.
I'm the same way with baseball, Posthumous. Here's my hierarchy of TV: 1. Baseball 2. "The Universe" or some other nerdy show like that 3. Terrible, terrible reality TV shows. I'm not ashamed to admit it! I watch American Idol! okay, I'm a little ashamed to admit it.
I dated a gal who's mother knew Peart. She didn't stick around long enough to get me an introduction.
OMG! It's over between us, Cate! Seriously, have you ever seen Jason Varitek's ass? Edit: Wait, I don't want to derail this thread by talking about hot, sexy man ass. What kind of learnin' do you usually go in for, Cate? (If you've already said, sorry...I didn't read the whole thread.) I usually go for animals, or history - ancient history is best - or space.
It's okay that you're mentally deficient and can't appreciate a fine hunk of man like Tek, Cate. I forgive you - I just respect you much, much less. ;P No, seriously, more ass for me. No, seriously seriously, no one outside of Boston should ever like baseball. Conspiracies! Whee! You know what I want to learn about next? China. I barely know anything about China. (All of Asia, really - stupid American schools only teach us European history. Boo, lame school system.) What're you reading right now? I'm reading "The Corner," which is nonfiction about the drug game in Baltimore. It's actually pretty interesting.
I am starting a new Tom Robbins novel soon. It is a novel, so not nonfiction, but I just love Tom Robbins, his writing is brazilliance.
yeah, Im a total nerd...... I was sitting at the bar at work, and someone was naming of states, and I was naming every capital, and they looked over and said, "who is this guy??" they always come to me for music knowledge too.
China hasn't had a very good history for the past 200 years. Let's see, they were ruled in the 1800's by the Manchu, who aren't the same ethnicity as most of China, and the instituted brutal policies against them. (Han) In the 1830's English declared war on them to force them to buy a lot of opium. Then in the 1850's they had the Taiping revolution which a Christian Chinese who said he was the brother of Jesus took over a third of China and around 30 million people died. In the middle of that there was another Opium war. Then for the rest of the cetury the were struggling with the Boxer rebellion. That killed a whole lot of people. Then in the 1910's and 20's the fragile government collapsed and was replaced by the Republic Of China. These were fought by who would become the communist party of China in a brutal civil war. Then in the 1930's things got really bad, Japan invaded, and proceeded to do series of massacres that the Nazi's thought were grotesque. Nearly 50 million people were killed by ther invasion of Japan. After Japan lost ww2, Mao had secured his grip over China. In the 1950's he tried to completly colectivise the agriculture of China in the great leap forward, leading to the great famine, which killed nearly 20 million people. Their relationships with the soviets worsened at this time, and in the 70's Mao died.
Han Chinese are also the only ethnic group bound to the one child policy. We could go into China and have as many kids as we wanted.
Cultural Studies, eh? Such an interesting field. Relatively new and unexplored. The concepts they utilize are fun to learn. Do you have any particular interest? I'm taking a cultural course on semiotics this semester. Its turned into a very theoretical course which was unexpected.
