I'll start by saying that I'm really not a political person...I'm not up on my international law or which country did what to who now...

So I will say this: Threadstarter, if you're so ashamed to be Canadian then get the hell out. We got no use for your kind.

I will also say this: even so-called "justified" wars still leave many innocents without parents, limbs, or lives. No matter what side of the war they are on, it is the innocent ones who suffer the most.

I will say, finally, that comparing how many people died in war A compared to war B in order to establish some sort of "good war vs. bad war" is pointless. All war causes suffering, all suffering is felt everywhere, and doesn't do anyone any good.

 

well I ashamed of my govermet and of half the people(not that kerry would have been a good prez.but the lesser of two evils) bush has done nothing to keep terroist out of the country.the war on terror is bull . its just another way to keep the people scared.so we give up more freedoms to keep us safe .they keep saying the terrorist want to stop our freedom .well don't wory mister tarrorist will do that are selfs .If we ever were free. drug laws are unconstutionel so are seat belt laws so is the patrot act and to many more to mention

 

as much as i disagree with the thread starter, i disagree with this statement just as much. we live in a democracy for a reason...not so we can leave when we don't like things, but so we can change them through our gov...though thats generally only a facade

at anyrate, we shouldn't be ashamed of being american or canadian or what not, we should be ashamed that our contries are part of the world bank and their neo liberal corporate globalization efforts that undermine any authority our governments have and out bid our rights and freedoms. the politicians are corrupt, but replacing them won't stop the corruption, we need to over throw the corporations before anything can be done about the governments.

I know, Canada's very accepting, very diverse, etc. I just hate it when people bitch about a country that gives them a lot of freedoms... it's just that people from all these others countries try so hard to get INTO Canada, because it's got so many opportunities and is such a great place to live. People who don't appreciate that are taking up space that could be used by people who really want to live here, that's all. I feel fortunate to live in Canada and it makes me sad when people don't realize what they have.
