ADIDAS all the way. I have had soooooooooo many pairs of them and they last me foreva. Worth the price but I dont buy them because they are name brand or nothin just like the brand have bought ADIDAS all my life.
i had a pair of DVS keenan milton 3's like 4 years ago and i grew out of them, but they lasted 2 years before i did and i'm pretty sure they would have lasted a lot longer ahd i not grown........plus they were comfy as hell, the most comfortable shoes i've ever owned
i've had mine now for nearly 30 years.. well 29 and a half years on saturday.. nothing better than barefeet
other than working in a violin shop. and shit falling down and sharp objects. a guy two years ago dropped a knife and it went through the leather of his boot... so i think id rather have something on.
if a knife went through a LEATHER BOOT...then what the heck is a shoe gonna do to help? anyway, its actually very difficult for an experienced barefooter to get hurt by walking. check out the website runningbarefoot.org and http://barefooters.org/
i dont know what a shoe will do. im actually a pussy ass bitch because im cant do barefoot things.. thats it uh huh. actually i started to, but then imoved into the city. and went to high school. i also have trouble with textures. i seriously couldnt touch bark when i was young. my mom fixed it by putting my hands in cookie dough and i stuck my hands in my mouth and stopped crying... when i was little my feet were pricked at a set interval of time to test my reflexes... i was born 10 weeks premature... thats beside the point.... shoes shoe shoe shoes im thinking canvas shoes. those street shoes look good. im thinking either macbeth's vegan shoes navy keds triumph black low top vans or??
Actually it's all about the fact that mommy and daddy buy them for all of you, and you want to make sure your friends think they are cool. If you feet hurt, or are cold, you buy what you can afford and you try to make them last.
^^ that was mean. My mom bought the last pair she'd contribute to when I was 13. After that it was my responsibility and I had Birks for a while. But cork breaks down with sweat and wear. Resoling only went so far.
ja... thats why birks are out of the question... also i will be riding bike to school/work... and sandals wont do...
when i seriously have to wear shoes i wear my Anticorp black spots which are made of hemp and vegetarian friendly leather, they have lasted me a while, although i do hardly wear shoes- however i would love to get this pair from the same 'company' when i try and find any money from somewhere and these may be better for lasting longer http://adbusters.org/metas/corpo/blackspotshoes/ peace, love and sunflowers
I have to go with drumminmama on this one - Chacos!!! She converted me from Birks. LOL Don't get me wrong, I love Birks, and have worn them (the same 2 pairs, arizonas and bostons) for years. When I first started wearing them, my feet and back stopped hurting. It was like going barefoot too, the closest I could get. I DO still wear them a lot. Birkenstocks last a long time and are as comfy as can be, but not if you plan to wear them like, camping or walking in wet places and stuff a lot. One old pair I had got soaked and for some reason it made the cork go kaput, so they were basically ruined. Chacos are great. I've had my pair for about ummm a year or so and they still look brand new after I wash them. They are comfortable and provide the same foot support as Birks, and the advantages they have over Birkenstock is that they actually last LONGER because they are built for all weather and terrains, no leather, etc. I've also noticed that the foot support doesn't get "smushed" down over time like with Birks. Obviously Birks form to your feet but after you wear them for a couple of years, they get more comfy but you do notice they don't support your feet as well as they used to. I'm guessing that's not going to happen with the Chacos, since it's not cork. However, they both feel differently on your feet. Chacos are more "noticeable" at first because it's a strap system, and kinda tight to the foot sometimes (yet you can still wiggle your toes). And if you get an older pair, they can be pretty freakin' heavy for sandals (They've recently redesigned them to be lighter) But ya get used to it. Birkenstocks are more of a "sloppy" loose fit with lots of wiggle room. Think of it like, Chacos are form-fitting jeans that last much longer than the Birks which are the loose fitting roomy cargo khaki pants that wear out faster if you wear them in the wrong conditions. As for non-sandals, Doc Martens. My husband is still wearing the same pair of Doc Marten boots he bought when we were dating 8 or 9 years ago. I got a pair when I was 15 and wore them all the time until they got too small, and they were still in great shape when I gave them away about 10 years later.
I had noticed that about Birks too, Bree, now that you mention it...they don't support as well when they are broken in...as weird as my feet are, they need lots of support, and I notice my heel and arches hurting a little bit more when I wear an old pair. I'm with the Chaco's too...I love mine, and they are perfectly fine for wading in creeks, and walking in puddles...two of my favorite pastimes...
docs i have... and the problem is breathability... my feet are getting really over heated... and i also need to get some insoles ore something because 16 hour days on feet and walking all over is a burden on them...
You can get Birkis repaired, resoles and a new insole can be put into the shoe, if you feel the inside is not giving you the support. There is a place where I live which will do this, or you can send them to a Birkie dealer to have them taken care of. Maybe it depends on what you do with your shoes, but I use cork life product and have never had a cork problem. I don't usually hike with them, though, I have a pair of Sativas, hemp hiking boots, with recycled soles. I've had them for about 12 years or more, use them in winter and for hiking (I had to seal up the air holes in the side to prevent snow from getting into them) and they are as good as new. This is what people did many years ago. You had one or two pairs of shoes, and if they needed repair, you didn't throw them away, you got them fixed. I love my Birks. Birkestock also make FULL shoes, not just sandles, they make full cover shoes. Go to most Birkie places on the net. Oddly, Nordstroms carries Birkies. Well, not many shoes are made to prevent knife attacks. If it is something which happens to you often, you'd be better off with steel toed boots, but who wants to wear those, unless you are in a heavy labor job? Speaking of Birkenstocks, I like two styles which are not available in the USA, that I know, Ascots and an other "Mary Jane" type style. Anybody know of a place where I can get these styles?
For work, I wear Shoes For Crews. I bought them 3 years ago and still going great! Their not very fashionable but they last.
High Tec magnums. http://www.magnumboots.com/canada/htmlproducts.php?cat=Uniform I had a pair I retired after 4 years of constant use. I Wore the sole down but the stitching is still intact. infact all I need is new soles. Converse All stars are horrible. after less than 2 years of infrequent use they crapped out on me.
To add... Converse All Stars/Chuck Taylors have shitty arch support, are now owned by NIKE, and are the least versatile sneaker on the face of the planet as they can only handle sunny weather, unless you enjoy cold, wet feet. If you're looking for a old school style Basketball Sneaker, PDF Flyers are a better purchase for your money. All the material is thicker, even the laces.
