Speaking of which, does anyone know if it'd be legal to publish an advert or sign for a business in a book like that? Would it fall under copyright law? Just time for another story before I go and eat dinner. I'm sure some of you will have heard me whining about my old warehouse job. I was doing stock-checking once, and my team leader showed me a draft copy of the sheets he'd been working on to make the job easier. At the bottom he'd left a space for..."note's and comments". "That's wrong." I told him. "That apostrophe shouldn't be there." "Oh, well." He replied. "It makes it look more professional." and they thought I was dim.
haha i think its funny how much people get worked up over this. I mean seriously you should see some of my friends work. Personally i couldn't care less, i mean at first i saw the apostrophe shouldnt of been there but i thought there was supposed to be another one (due to comments below it) and spent several minutes trying to figure it out. NOTE: i didnt say friend's work. i said friends work. Thats right - right?
well, are you referring to your friends working, or your friends' (plural) works, or your friend's (singular) works??
or are you referring to the act of working? the way you have it now, it seems as though you are inviting us to watch your friends at work. i despise improper pluralization of titles like Surgeon General. i also hate the word "kick-off". "kick-offs" is the stupidest pluralization, ever.
friends school work. e.g bob's school work was eaten by a mouserat. Before it was eaten there was alot of mistakes in it. That was what i was talking about. You are ALL welcome to come and watch my friends work but i wont tell you where. Ever.
Shouldn't it be 'your friends' work', or 'your friend's work'? Or are you talking about 'works' in the other sense?
of course "kick-offs" makes sense to you! but "kicks off" made sense grammatically before kick-off was adapted to be one word. when else is "off" pluralized?
not if it's multiple friends' works. if it's a single work (item) then it would be your friends' work. but if multiple friends have multiple works, then it's your friends' works.
Offskies At least that's what sprang to mind. But in the few seconds I've had to quote you and actually type the word I've realised it's wrong Something strange about that McDonald's sign though. Seems to be hiding some words. Looked a bit fake for a second. Gonna have another look...
No. Nevermind. All this time I've thought the whole picture was the sign. McDonald's actually had their grammer right! Just trying to pinch Thursday. Some other plonker messed up its spelling.
it might be covered by copyright law, but they'd be most unlikely to take you to court as it would make them look even stupider. Private Eye prints things like that all the time.
don't worry about it ... i hadn't slept in a day and a half when i posted that. i was just confused and mistook your punctuation for quotation to be added punctuation. (now that sounded even more confusing) tis one of the few times i could pass off my stupidity on sleep - or lack there of.
