If you don't realize that people who cut themselves are sick in the head...then you are sick in the head AND delusional. The truth hurts, but it's the truth.

I have been a cutter before. i know what its like,. it feels like there is absolutely no possible way you can be able to get it all out, and to just take a knife or razor or whatever and cut your skin is like you controling yourself. its called SI self injuring. seek help immediately! its dangerous, and its a disorder. what you need to do is find something else to get it all out. writing helps, automatic writing. just grab a pen and paper and just start writing, who knows what will come out, but its better than looking at a scar and remembering when you were sad. u should have a journal where you put your feelings in and see a doctor as soon as you can. you are not alone, there are many like you. dont feel like its stupid,, its not. its a problem so many people have. counseling and a journal is my advice to you. if you want., pm me. ive been there. and i want to help.

People cut for different reasons. For some, it is about control - one's life may be out of one's control but at least one can cause oneself to bleed and it is near to impossible for others to take that control away. Another use of cutting is as a form of reality check. If life is surreal, at least one's blood is not, nor is the pain. The most common reason is to remove painful thoughts or feelings lurking in the subconscious before they rise to the surface. However, if one removes the discomfort with a blade, one remains unaware and a life unexamined is not worth living, though an examined one ain't no picnic.

If you cut just deep enough you can make it so the scars only last a week or two.

I did it too for a while when i was 14, i just needed to channel all of my anger and frustration, it felt good, i could feel all my hate and anger flowing away. I can even now, after 3 years, still see the scars at my arms, there are better ways to channel your emotions, i think, once you grow in age you will have it easier to do this. I mostly go to a quiet place, just to calm down.

ps: don't seek proffesional help! they will send you to a mental institution where they will take away alot of your individual freedom and exploit all of your emotions. believe in a better future, find other ways to handle your emotions, go running in the woods, take some weed, do something alone, not with other people, just try to find peace with your mind ;).

Ive been a cutter for about ten years, I finally got it under control for the most part, still slip from time to time. Cutting is very serious you risk the chance of getting Staphylococcus and infections which can cause skin, soft tissue, bone infections, limb loss and possible death, this can occur while using what you belive to be a clean blade. of course theres the chanes you cut to deep and striking a vein which I have done I actually hit two, .Then there are the scars, all of which do not always fade. I got some nasty permanant ones.

Nine times out of ten, when you seek professional help they do not put you in a mental hospital because you are seeking help, but if you end up in the emergancy room due to self injury you without a doubt will end up in a mental health facility. most counsilers that I have had were great very helpful people that have delt with this very situation many a time. I truly recommend that you seek there guidence, but only you can make that decision.

I have never understood why people would do this. Isn't pain supposed to be there so that we don't harm ourselves?? Isn't sex and drugs for feeling good? How can pain feel good anyways?? I admit pain can be fun like when i stack on my dirtbike going 30 mph right before i hit the ground you get the most intense adrenaline ever. It's not just the pain thats fun in that case, the moment before you hit the ground is priceless. Lol of course i have never purposely done this, but i am very glad the i have crashed all those times anyway. Cutting on the other hand is pointless/retarded, i have never considered self mutilation except for my fetish on that crashing thing.

Yeah, it's a fucked up habit. It's pointless, it's stupid.. but it's so.. I don't even know the word. But it's nice at the same time.

I'll try to explain this to you. I realize it's a really weird thing to try to explain to someone who doesn't understand.. to someone who is normal.. but I'll try. :)

Okay. You know how sometimes you have those days where you wonder if you're real.. and if everything around you is real.. or if you're just in a dream? Those days when you're questioning your existance, you know those? Well, pain helps with that. It helps keep you grounded.

And.. also.. yeah, it feels good. For example, I pick the skin around my nails so constantly that they're bloody and sore quite a lot of the time. I'll wonder why I do it, because my fingers are constantly throbbing with pain, but when I am doing it it is sort of a release of nervous tension. I guess that's what cutting is for me, too. Everything just feels temporarily released.

I'm a nutcase, though. I have about a million neurotic habits and quirks (if that's what you call that kind of shit.) I think it has to do with my overactive mind. I definitely don't recommend this stuff to anyone. It's socially unacceptable and not to mention dangerous in certain cases. Plus, it's fucked up, heh. But hey there you go. I don't cut deep.. just enough to feel something.. I want to quit cutting though. Too much risk involved.

Yeah i hear what you're saying about where you feel like you're in a dream and the cutting will make you much more aware that you exist, and will make you feel more alive i can understand that. I have found that pain does make life more interesting in alot of cases. So i like doing dangerouse stuff for that reason, because when you fail, you know it, and doing the it without failing makes the danger worth the adrenaline rush.
I mainly mean like extreme sports and stuff but i wanna get into street racing :p
I guess that i am different because you seem to actually like the pain enough to staight up give it to yourself. I like pain, but only when i get into ACCIDENTs. But getting into an accident is so exciting for me so that's why i try to be dangerous.
So i must not be that normal since i like the pain?

The main reason cutting tends to be addicting and almost feels good is because when the body recieves any trauma your body releases endorphins, endorphins are the bodys natural pain killer, it can assist in physical pain and also in mental pain. By cutting and releasing endorphins you are basically getting an instant antidepressive thus making you feel better. A better and much much safer way of releasing endorphins is exersise, a good workout can also release endorphins.

Lately it makes me feel like I'm strong.
I'm a tough chick that can take pain.
    Or is above pain.

    It's like... how to explain?
Lately I feel "above" pain. I can take a lot of pain. Like it's just mind over matter. (Pain as in physical pain)

I know that doesn't make sense, but it's my state of mind lately.
Anybody ever feel like that too?

When you cut yourself, it lets off a small high in your brain that makes you think that you're releasing some thing. All your really releasing is a lot of blood, not cool. Even though you don't want to, you need to get counseling. If you REALLY want help, like honestly, you'll get counseling. asap, before it's too late. Sorry hon, but that's all I can help you with personally. I'm going to tell you that it's NOT safe, and it's NOT okay. But you don't have to do this to yourself, and you're in control of everything you do in your life and in your future.. that's something you can do. If you're doing it because of other people, just remember, true rebelling is prooving to other people that you can be what they always told you, you couldn't.

I think people who post smug BS like this are more than a little "sick in the head" themselves Dario. It's easy for "normal" people to say condescending shit like that, but they aren't helping anyone! I used to do it too a little bit and I had a good councilor at the time. He suggested a less destructive alternative which was to wear a ruber band around my wrist..one that would fit loosely, and when I felt like I needed a pain fix I could just pull it out a ways and snap it. You still need to work on the issues that make you want to do it but at least that way you aren't harming yourself and risking infections or worse.

I have bipolar disorder and recently started to cut myself. I am so depressed and don't know what to do. I guess I'll go to the health center on Monday, but until then, what can I do? I just need someone to talk to.

    Peace and love

it just occurred to me that we (i) probably like proving our (my) mind over matter when we (i) feel like matter is overtaking our (my) mind(s) :)
