Yes. Finally some honesty. Don.t pay attention to anyone judging you for this. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful wasn't involved with 9/11 but at the same time I didn't care at all. I was in 8th grade at the time and was suspended from school that day. I was up watching tv at about 8 am or so when the breaking news came on. I really didn't care, all I could focus on was how trippy the smoke looked, especially as the sun went down.

I hate when morally pretentoious people act like someone is some lowly pond scum for not sharing their beliefs and greiving when everyone else thinks they should.

I'll put it like this........I was more upset about Will Smith's dog dying in 'I am Legend'.

I think it's perfectly normal for an eight grader to have this reaction. I couldn't see past my own bullshit at that age, no matter how staggering things might have been to others.

well my point was that after 10 years I still don't care.....kind of like when Osama was killed...it was great and all and a "victory for justice" so to speak but I was more irritated that the Mets-Phillies game was interrupted....even after we found out that he had plans to kill Barack Obama and other cabinet members I really didn't care.......I was more amused that the SEALs found homemade porn in his compound.

speaking of SEALs.....I'm am in no way a patriot but the mission they executed was pretty badass to say the least........I mean blowing up your ride home before the mission even starts and still proceeding...

    oohh rebellious
    Glad it happened?
You glad about the wars it's caused?
How much worse the situation in the Middle East is now that it brought America back into the forefront of it?
The thousands and thousands of innocents that have died worldwide; the fortification of hatred against the West it has caused, how many it's brought to the cause; and how much the chances have increased that one day, world war will break out and you will be one of the victims?

war is a necessary part of life people must die in order for others to live. already this world is over populated, this world is just another version of WWI in a sense its a powderkeg waiting to go off with all the tension in the world. and if i am one of the victim of war then so be it i have accepted that my number will pulled eventually

I remember watching the events of 9/11 live as it happened on the tv, and mostly just felt numb and was in a state of disbelief over what I was watching. I can't say I got overly upset about it, but nor was I inidfferent towards it, and I certainly found nothing amusing about it.

In a worldwide context, there are horrific things happening constantly all over the world that do not recieve anywhere near the attention that 9/11 has had. I will confess that I've felt more repulsed and upset when I've watched videos of horrific animal cruelty, than when I watched coverage of 9/11. But I guess that might be because I view animals as being innocent and helpless, whereas the vast majority of humans are definitely not innocent. I did feel sorry for the people who died in 9/11 though, and felt empathy for their friends and families. People who lack empathy scare me, quite frankly.

I read through every post in this thread, and couple of really great points were made that I've always shook my head at. I live in the UK, and I hate it when they make a bigger deal about someone's death if they're British than if they're any other nationality. For just a very recent example, the bus crash in Switzerland that killed 27 people including 22 children. When it was discovered that one of the children who died was British, the media made a huge deal about it, as if the death of the British child was somehow of greater importance just because of his nationality. This type of thing is definitely the ugly face of patriotism. The same level of empathy should have been shown to everyone who died...

As for the pick n' mix way the media chooses to focus on certain tragedies and ignores others, it does disturb me a lot when I hear people saying things like "she was too beautiful (in a physical sense) to die". Or even worse, using the word "sexy". As if the victim had been less physically appealing, their death would be more acceptable, or even insignificant. Sometimes humans bewilder me just as much as they disgust me.

I honestly never really cared about 9/11 either, it annoys me more than anything. But this may be because i was only about 6 or 7 years old when it happened, and i live in Canada. I remember being in school when it happened, and all the teachers were freaking out and we turned the TV's in the halls and class rooms on, and we all sat around watching. I remember being very confused as to what it even was, and all the teachers were sitting around looking petrified as all the kids just sat around talking. Seeing as how this was just Grade 1 or so...

But in all honesty, 9/11 is just over-exaggerated by the news. I admit it was a horrible thing, but much more horrible things happen all the time... the only reason it still brings in so much attention is because it happened in America, if it happened anywhere else in the world nobody here would be talking about it right now... what about Haiti? Nobody talks about that anymore, what about Japan? Nobody talks about that anymore, and both of those were much more recent than 9/11, yet people still talk about 9/11 all the time... its ridiculous, people need to move on and not be so self-centered.

Unfair comparisons; one's "nature", one's man.

There hasn't been a single terrorist attack, in a long time, maybe ever, that has killed that many people. But a much better comparison would be the warlords and children armies in Africa; whose attention ebbs and flows.

a tragedy is a kind of play, not a bad event. I understand it's a simile.. but it's time to pick a new one.

Man- I cant even believe that people felt nothing

I was driving in NJ ,just on the other side of the Hudson river at around 9 am that morning- -car, after car pulled over and people watched in horror from a few miles away.
My cousin Steve was on the 4th floor on WTC1 and was on his way to the Ferry moments after the 1st plane hit. Safe and sound- He still doesn't speak of the co-workers and friends that didn't make it- -
Maybe growing up in NY and actually seeing it take place. I took it more personal than others that saw events unfold from hundreds of miles away on thier TV screens

As time went by- anger turned to sadness- -Sad that other people ,fanatics or whatever, could actually rejoice in perpetrating such a act on other humans-
Sad in the fact that you knew that the world had been changed forever that morning

why should we care about the twin towers

    but then

ignore the plight of millions more on a daily basis???

    feel something by all means

but shit happens all the time.

if i were to try and sympathise with everything

    and everybody

i'd never get out of bed in the morning.
