Fortunately there is always the mainstream; news, sports, weather, jobs, suburbs, commuting, shopping, fashion, malls, golf......... Can't understand why anyone would want a break from that utopia.

If you're talking about babylon don't forget to include all the dumpsters, charities, blood relatives, welfare systems and kind hardworking farms that provide the food that finds its way into gatherings.
Don't forget the student aid, ssi, hard earned $ from jobs and self employment for currency that provide the blankets, tents, chairs, lighters, drugs, pots, pans and lamps.
And never forget the slaves that make the material that is still worn by a good percentage of gatherers. Yes, slaves. Or did you think getting paid $1 a day while being imprisoned is OK because the slaves that make our clothes aren't American? Did you know that American prisoners provide materials and clothing for retailers in other countries? Check out Prison Blues in Oregon sometime. Slaves are everywhere and we're not exempt. The ones here in the US get $1 a day too.

And please never forget the kids out there dying in the sand so the vast majority of the vehicles that go to gatherings can get there.

Living a non sustainable existance as many gutter-type kids do may not be feeding into the system...but it is feeding off the system, and in a world of supply and demand that's the same thing.
Those of us in "babylon" are just as aware of that as the rest. That's why we boycott, why we protest, why we make informed decisions, why we help our fellow man.

There are people on the rainbow trail and off in alternative energy vehicles, that don't do crank, that do take care of their kids, and support themselves through work that doesn't harm others......
but just going to a gathering does not magically make a drunk drugged out blissninny kid into one of those people, just drinking in the woods can't always turn someone into an informed and active member of this world.
I think that's where the confusion lays.
Babylon isn't in the city, it isn't in the woods. It's in the people that close their eyes to what is going on and just keep consuming and living like what they do doesn't effect the rest of us.

on renfaire circuit, which has a good Rainbow/ Deadhead/ rennie overlap, we had a running joke about the Drainbows:
"I'm not your brother, I don't have a cigarette and go wash that f&*%%n baby."
sadly, that IS a part of the Rainbow.
But by surrendering and not allowing something better to be created YOU foster the failure.

Shut up or put up.

My first gathering was '94 Wyoming. Seems to me that the feds and the Drainbows are keeping alot of the good family away. I lost hundreds of dollars worth of camping gear in Utah, I felt worse for whoever took it than I did for myself. Yes, quality people show up every year, but it's becoming disproportionately schwag, sorry to say, but this much is obvious. Love you!

So... will some of you "rainbows" tell me what is so "rainbow" about stereotyping others, dictating who should or should not be Rainbow, and trying to control who belongs in a PUBLIC park or not?

How does this make you so much more "rainbow" than the same people you bitch and whine about?

Where has the mentality of, all people are rainbow and thier belly button proves it, gone?

How come "rainbow" complain constantly about others shitting on them, then turn around and shit on others?

When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow

Welcome Home!

Well... except you... you .... you... and you.... oh and you too.... you do not belong here! You are not rainbow!

FUNNY... alot of "rainbows" will sit there and complain of drainbows and such and try to justify why they are drainbows. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TAXPAYERS THINK THE SAME THING ABOUT RAINBOW (and have the figures to back it up!)!

Make rainbow what you want it to be for yourself.

I would be a rich man if I had a dollar for evertime I saw a "rainbow" give someone a hug and smile and pretend to care.... then when the other person leaves... they do nothing but bitch about them and who they are.... then go on to be fake with the next person... constantly pointing out just how rainbow they truely are!!

So... instead of bitching and stereotyping others.... please do tell me why you are so much better than everyone else? What makes you so much more special than another human? That is... if some of you can get off of your high horses!

No one's different from anyone else. You can bitch about a group of people if you want, that group can bitch about you too, you're both as right as each other. All it achieves is a rift and a lesson in verbal self-defense. If you really want something to change, either kill them or get over it.

Well, the reality of the situations is that the entire PLANET is becoming pretty schwag, and this bleeds thru into everybodys existance, no matter who you are. Rainbow is still pretty much the last bastion of GOOD, LOVE, PEACE, and BROTHERHOOD, even with all the problems. What lifestyle does NOT have problems? Particularly a lifestyle which, no matter what, WILL include people from all walks of life, and by its very nature, Rainbow attracts people with problems who may not be accepted anywhere else.

Your choice is either to just throw your hands up and give up (just allow things to get worse and worse, or wait for someone else to fix it), or to start putting even more positive energy into it, to counteract the bad. Rainbows have MUCH more power to do this within Rainbow than the average citizen has in their average world! If we cant do it, then no one can.
Much of the complaining about rainbow (or anything else for that matter) stems directly from either apathy or a feeling of powerlessness to change things. I suggest that rainbow is one of the STRONGEST examples of people creating their own reality. Our biggest goal as "Rainbows" should be to work at fixing whats broke. Not get swallowed up by it...

Everybody has the right to do whatever they want, including showing up at a peace gathering with violent intentions. Schwag is schwag, and taking someone's survival gear at ten thousand feet in the mountains goes beyond my level of understanding. I realize that some people are unfortunate, that is why I send my love to them. Sound like I'm contradicting myself? Life is full of paradoxes. Who said I was giving up on the drainbow family? But calling them rainbow would insult those who carry the true message of peace.
When I showed up in California, the LEOs were driving their SUVs through the main meadow, much to everyone's dismay. Some aggro hippies were shouting at them in anger with clenched fists and furled brows. I walked up to them, said, "Hey guys, we love you, we're glad you're here, but will you please stop driving your trucks through here?" They were extremely defensive at first. After calmly explaining to them that this was our meditation retreat, and bombarding them with positive feelings, the hardness in their eyes dissipated. They agreed to ask their supervisor about that request. I was the first person to approach them with civility. They had no idea why people were so upset until I told them. It was their first Rainbow gathering and their first impression was ugly shouts and bad feelings.
I won't go into details, but those who went to the Forest Service/Rainbow council regarding that same situation, know that after being pleaded to for several minutes, the head LEO (Russ Arthur) agreed to tell his officers to quit driving their vehicles through the main meadow. The only time they drove in after that was for the Native/Rainbow council being held because we were camped on an indian burial site.
I stand by my statement that the feds and the drainbows are scaring away alot of good family. Facts are facts. Truth is, there are a hell of a lot of rangers I'd rather hang out with with than a lot of 'hippies'. Drawing the line babylon/Rainbow is what a lot of brothers and sisters seem to do. In my opinion, there is a line: drainbow/rainbow..... Actions speak louder than words! Love you! Svi

There absolutely ARE drainbows, and bliss ninnies, and rainbow nazis, and gutter punks, and road dogs, and more that I cant think of right now. There are all sorts of common names for things in rainbow tongue. So, if you are a green person, then people might call you a green person, even if its not so cool to be green. Its more about truth than anger...
BUT, they are all there, and therefore they all fall under the heading of Rainbow, simply because they are there. At least thats the concept. So, the goal would be to help those who dont get it to understand. Be that which you want to be surrounded by. Goodness is not something that, once established, can be taken for granted. Its something that requires constant care, because there is always someone who doesnt understand...

I agree that we should help those who don't get it to understand. I think we should Shanti Sena them out of the gathering until they learn to behave. Kind of like making a naughty little kid stand in the corner. Yes, I know this won't happen. I guess it all goes along with living in a dysfunctional family (we are all family, including LEOs and 'babylonians'!)

Do both; just do them fully. And don't stay away! I haven't a clue who you are, but I would miss you, and I love you and hug you and pass you the bowl of whatever goodness you will share with me. [IMG] Even if you are FBI or George Bush himself. It's hard to remember sometimes, but a gift to share if you can recognize it-- all are worthy of love.

I know that there are alot of misunderstood kids at gatherings. But to me thats what our family is there for. To show these kids that there is a better way. Hope and kindness are catching, if you show someone just a little light then it grows to a great big glowing light. Remember every lighs starts with a small spark. Be htat spark. If you don't like how rainbows are being then inspire the change.

that was not at all the experience i saw at my first gathering in paonia colorado. for me it was a life changing experience to discover there were other folks in the world who thought like me. i'll have to admit though that gatherings ive been to since seem pretty much like you described. if you want to see more beautiful souls and less party, try going after the 4th when the partiers have left and everyone else is cleaning up. or try going very early, before the word is out with the locals.

I remember the feeling of the first gathering I went too...I remember being so happy that I found home. i quit my job and set out about finding my tribe...and after looking for 6 years, I became an angry burnt out boy-no-more who got dumped into adulthood without knowing it.

It makes you angry when all you get is drunk drugged out perverts
and you realize your turning into one....AHHHHHHHHH

Peace
