That's fine, but I was wondering if other people had similar experiences, or had any cool theories as to why things like this happen, and if there really is any legitimacy to the "maybe my brain just handles drugs too well" IDEA.

Or just to see if there was a topic around it.

I remember I took an 8th of shrooms with some friends myself before and really didn't trip either. Just rambled like a high drunk person, felt good sure, but it really just didn't trip me out much. I do think my brain is just "too on" and isn't too good at shutting itself off and getting lost in the moment.

I obviously WANT to trip. Just wondering what I need to change, or see if others have sometimes had similar experiences. I guess it's possible I just haven't had fire shit, or I'm expecting too much, or haven't had enough experience yet. I'll find out more in March as I guess I'm doin' some LSD again. I'll try to really observe what's going on and try not to explain it or change it, and see where that goes, I suppose.

Yeah....there's no such thing as a brain who can "handle it too well"

to op. it probably has alot to do with where your attention is at. externally or internally focused? do you find yourself going about your trip doing regular things as if you were not tripping? idk, every trip is different and everybody trips differently; but i think amongst trippers there is a mentality where being able to trip and appear straight is considered a skill. keeping it straight isnt conductive to a super spunion trip though.

    ever try tripping alone?

Not tripping as hard as your friends has nothing to do with being able to handle a psychedelic drug. Not tripping hard only indicates that you have not yet taken the amount which is active and appropriate for you. You could call this a curse or a blessing. I'd say it is the result of impotent street quality blotter. Sum it up, better luck next time, try again. A sure sign that you are tripping hard and right - the ceiling will appear to be trying to devour you.

dude i get the exact same problem as you. i'm pretty sure it's a personality thing, like what slylikeafox said. like, i have quite a defensive personality and i am protective of my ego, so losing control is difficult for me. there's always an annoying bit of my brain that stubbornly tells me what is right and what is wrong even when i'm tripping, so i can't really experience the fun sensations as much as my friends.
is that what it's like with you?

Both me and the friends I've tripped and then generally lounge around and look at things and "explore" the world in ways I'd normally overlook. I think that's typical LSD behavior...

I'd say focus is on both internal and external. "Whoa, look at these things, they're so pretty... whoa this one melts a bit because these patterns already loop a lot, hey look that wall looks like it's breathing 'cuz the type of curtians have slits in them, oh you can reeeeeeeeeally see the off-color stripes on the carpet contrast with the other."

On the inside, just thought patterns and "epiphanies" one would get from ingesting LSD - normal, I think.

If true, I'd call it a curse. Could be result of impotent street blotter, but ya I've def. never seen stuff as completely morphed like "the ceiling trying to devour me" -- how many hits would you expect something like that off of?

I think I need to try that. Perhaps in company my mind is just too on guard, or defensive, or distracted.

Hmmm. For me nah, I don't get that. I've just never had my brain go --
"whoa, this is intense, I'm not in control of itt" -- it always seems to have a solid handle on things as an observer and experiencer. I generally have to focus to try to get visuals out (normal?). My friend said he once hit a sharp corner of a table and thought he died once. Scary as shit ya, but things like that I'll never believe in or experience on acid (with the acid I've had). I really don't know what's the norm, but my experiences seem to indicate there's something I'm missing.

Oh, and these are all on 2-3 hits of acid. One time I did 2 hits and 2 gel tabs (again, nothing too crazy that night but I don't know what you should expect).

    *Hope any of those help*

I think you are looking for something in a trip that perhaps tripping with friends is not going to allow.

I don't know. There is so much that can and can't go into creating a trip. And any of them might make a difference, or might not.

Have you put any thought into creating a period of "ritual" around your ingesting of a substance? If not, next time before you dose, go and sit down. turn off the tv, the phone, the computer, whatever it is. Put what you're going to dose in front of you and look at it for a few minutes. Keep pushing thoughts away as they come. Just let it be you, your spirit, and the drug you are about to take.

If you are open to the idea, say a prayer. It doesn't even have to be to "God", it could be to the spirit of the drug, or to the spirit of the earth, or to the wisdom of the ancients. Whatever it is YOU are looking for in a trip, declare your intentions BEFORE the trip. If you just want to have a good time with lots of visuals, build up that energy inside of yourself. Of course things can always take an unexpected turn, but the better we can guide our mind BEFORE entering into the trip the better chance we have of being able to impact some control over the experience.

And actually, before I can even really go any further, what is it then you are looking for in a trip? When you say "I don't trip hard", what does "tripping hard" look like to you? What does it mean? Is tripping hard a spiritual experience? Visuals? Empathy? Emotions? What does it mean to you to have a hard trip?
