I think that, for the first time, we agree! I feel the same way.

Do you think that your use of psychedelics has helped your mental state after serving? I've read articles about LSD being used in treatment with vets who have PTSD and it, for the most part, had good results.

Have psychedelics have aided you in living a happy life after the military?

Has orison mentioned he has PTSD or was negatively affected by his time in Iraq?

    I don't think he's mentioned either way, that's why I asked him.

Most people are affected by war. I was curious to know if psychedelics had a part in his upbeat disposition after his time with the military.

We shall see. I have a feeling he might not want to talk about it one way or another.

(Man, we can get a lot of mileage out of "nuts")

    Yes we can.

Yea, I hope he isn't offended by my asking. I was just curious as I've read about LSD being used (with positive results) with vets, that's all.

personally my life was destroyed by others before the sept 11th attacks. I had already considered some duty in the Reserves prior to that..
Being that I was there in 91 and seen the Iraqi's surrender, I was confident that in 2001 that this invasion wouldn't last much longer than a few month< OK I was dead wrong.. i believed that air superiority would just take them out like in Iraq. But in Afghanistan they were not waiting for us in the desert dying of thirst, and hunger, in 1950's soviet tanks... They were actually ready to fight this one out.

I had already consumed much psychedelics in my life..I cant say that they have helped me. What has helped me, was understanding that I see war on my own streets, going there to me is like being a firefighter. You really dont know what you may come across on duty. Maybe a fire that has killed children.. But this is your job. This is what you do for a living.. My mos is a 94a/ I dont know that they use that code anymore. Maintaining anything that has electricity going to it.. its pretty hectic, you get the hang of it real quick. This plugs in there, that there, get moving this and that, strip this apart rebuild it.. all while the biggest 4th july party is going on..
The worst fighting took place in Fallujah, where i experienced the real war.. not sitting 500 miles away in a lawn chair minding a missile system like I did in 1991, This was real in your face shit!!

After the battle took place that morning with most the 1st marine division. While supporting this engagement our hmmwv hit an ied, had we been going faster the explosion would of went off more underneath the chassis, probably killing us all. But it did not. It was more a fire explosion, setting the hummer on fire from the front.. The driver was killed but not instantly, but from the small arms fire that surrounded us as he tried to exit the burning vehicle..
I believe its the smoke that saved my ass, I lost a bit off my finger, took some shrapnel in the arm and the fire took off most the hair on my exposed areas.. My goggles were black as coal, I couldnt see. All I could hear was the pelting of bullets off the ground and metal..

If I go to the VFW I could talk to an older veteran that was at the battle of Anzio, WWII.. The guy that drinks warm beer with eggs.. I have yet to see any Iraq veterans up at the crack of dawn sweeping puddles from the middle the street. This man is shot out, but he could keep you listening for hours, he seen real fighting, real war, fighting in conditions that make Iraq and Afghanistan look like preschool playhouse.. Some days he'll talk about his garden, his peppers and tomatoes. Other days hes really drunk calling the bar tender a rotten bitch and rambling on and on about Italy..

I tend to ramble on and on about Iraq and Afghanistan with company at home too.. I dont know why we are there anymore, I really didnt know why we were there in the first place.. Seeing that soldiers are still dying while the price of gas still rising makes no sense to me.... Oil spill in the gulf, fucking retards that dont know where real energy comes from... It comes from the soul!!! If you have no soul and dont give a fuck where your gas and electric comes from. You could care less how many people are dying over it. If thats your assumption..

WE can make all kinds of energy capturing devices, but we dont want to. We want to make believe we are teaching our children how to consume energy properly, or create it. But this is a big lie... If your one them dumbass that was raised in a coal town, you dont give a fuck about wind and solar! nor do you give a fuck that your job conditions are dangerous. Only when someone gets hurt do you care.

Heres a shocker!! Soldiers are still dying but the truth is.. That what the job calls for.. You dont raise cows to cut grass, you raise them to put them to DEATH!!...

We are all pawn in this game, serving the same master..

    Thank You.

Not too much how it is affecting you now...but thanks for the ramble.

I disagree it's all about oil or oil prices are effected one way or another...but that's another thread, I suppose.

I never said I didn't report it, but thanks...

I think the thing that people are missing from my argument is that they were in uniform. When you are in the military there is a code of behavior etc. I've seen people get berrated by higher officers (strangers) for simply wearing their fatigues in public without a legitimate reason. This is a job, not a necessarily a personal characteristic like the ones that were mentioned by someone (hippie, stoner etc.) As a member of the military, you are an extension of the Executive Office, and the the Commander in Chief. It's just scary to think that these type of people have success enough to be in the military and represent the country that I live in.

The thing I was striving to point out is that the rank and file soldier is really no different then you in age, education or maturity. They are enlisted men, many of whom the military was the only viable option open to them for work and maybe a shot at a future, but they are still essentially the guys you saw every day in high school. Just because they entered military service did not mean they instantly changed.
You are correct in the idea that they should behave with a greater respect and awareness for the uniform and what it represents, but most are still just young kids with a lot of growing up left to do.
