Great, a boring summary of the thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-TaLGavCk8"]YouTube- Camp Rock / Too Cool FULL HQ w/LYRICS
Warning: Devil's Advocate Incoming... I don't know many 8 year olds that squeal at the thought of watching an hour long documentary on the rings of Saturn. Likewise, I simply do not surround myself (not saying they don't exist, I'm sure they do) 35 year olds that squeal at the thought of watching bubblegum pop vidoes. I know plenty of morons that listen to decent music. My five year old has given Beyonce's song "Single Ladies" at least 200 hits just by herself. If I hear it one more time, I might die. Yep, people are frickin stupid. IMVHO, the existence of shitty bubblegum pop is likely not the sole source of our idiocy. This "music" if wretched, though. I'll give you that.
Knowledge is material. Some don't care for it, or care to look for it. That is why it is distributed in clumps. I don't mind stupidity, more for me, a distinct advantage.
i was raised on discovery channel. i am one of those who as long reveled in learning. and todays truly pathetic 'popular music' makes me long for the comparative sanity of the boy bands. not that i liked them either, but they were at least a little easier to listen to. the question is, how do you drum up interest in things like science, that are really cool, but haven't got good PR?
Apt juxtaposition. It's all about the money and power now and not the knowledge. The machines and the knowledge the ancients derived from their observations could have been directed to fascillatate a knowlegeable, peacefull world that benefitted all of the sentient beings long gone and extant. Evolutionary forces were/are somehow unable to provide the ability to see how this little blue ball moving through space and time could be a paradise for ALL. It appears to be too late now,so hunker down and take care of your own,for that is seemingly all that is possible at this point in time. Damn shame,it is.
Finally the stupidity of todays generation is partially explained. Now if we could only figure out the cause of the stupidity of our generation we just might change all of that.
but dude, hannah montana and bieber and all the pop music. next summer itll be some new sensation. and the magazines at the newstands will all be raving about whoever the fuck is the newer, even younger, singer who raps about themes that are much older than their experience. but science will always have a following.
True but pop "culture" virtually ensures that this following will be a small minority that is easily marginalized.
