Where is America at? Sure most Americans have nice cars, homes and one of the highest incomes in the world, but about half of the world hates you simply for being an American. Theres more important things than material posessions, as Im sure most people on this site claim to understand. If you ever go onto the website liveleak, try looking at the comments some of the videos get. Most of the comments are from Americans (and some British) laughing at the folk being killed. Its awful, not much wonder people hate us.
Were on top economically which allows us to have a greater push in world politics. This is why there is so much resentment. Its like watching children try to get people to feel bad about themselves. It makes others feel like they are really the shit because Americans are so stupid. Thats just childish bullshit though. You have obviously never been to America before. I would say less then 10% are caught up in materialism. Yes our media is but they exagerate to sell shit to the masses including your countries. Well I am glad that the US created insensitive jerks. It is amazing we have been able to hold on to them all and create this monopoly of jerks in the world. Come on.
Is it the fact America has push, or what they use that push to do. I have, and I seen all the SUV's, swimming pools, Mcdonalds all of which are very expensive to run but also very convenient. There are jerks everywhere, just some cant admit when they are wrong.
None of these where you live? I have been to 10 countries in my life and they all had these things, well at least the rich did. As for the convenience factor, yea that would be big in America considering the people here work more hours, with less vacation and lower un-employeement then most of Europe. You are missing the point anyway. I am saying we are imperfect but there is still no place I would rather be. Build your own countries and stop the American bashing already. If you mean that we push for our interests in the world you are right. Should we push your interest in the hate and destruction of America, sorry.
Ive been waiting for you to say it, and well done. I dont actually hate America, and that is the point all my posts have been heading towards, so indeed im not the one who has missed the point. I dont want to see the destruction of America either. What I do want to see is people being able to take some criticism onboard without calling it hatred. The very same thing happens if I criticise Israels foreing policy, then im called an anti-semite or anti-zionist. If I crisicise GWB (or even american swimming pools and the choice of cars) im anti-american. If I dont support Britains roll in Iraq im un-patriotic, which I find ludicrous. If you want to call me anti-something, why not anti-war, anti-pollution or anti-moron.
I agree with you but was the title of this thread " I disagree with American Policy on ?", nope. I don't mind when people don't agree with everything America does but I get sick of the statements along the lines of: Americans are all fat, stupid and lazy If thats the case then everyone else should feel especially stupid that we are an economic power.
riots dont solve anything. they only make the citizens of the country look like violent hooligans who are acting like little kids who dont get their way
That's funny because other then the McDonald's (which are in MANY different countries) most everyone I know either can not afford a swimming pool and SUV or doesn't want them. I guess I get offended when people from other countries say American is all those things because they've NEVER been a part of my life or the life of people around me. Then again, I never had a lot of money...was always working class. *shrugs* (Btw, what is wrong with having a swimming pool anyways? If you can afford it, it's good excercise so why not?... anyways....)
Hmmm. The real problem I have with people putting down Americans as opposed to American society is that it sometimes comes off as though some people actually think Americans are inherently dumb/arrogant/whatever. Most Canadians and Europeans, had they been brought up here, would really be no different; you are fortunate to have been born in, essentially, more cosmopolitan and humane countries. The things you despise Americans for have been drilled into their heads since birth, which leads to those closed, prejudiced and stagnant minds. Which I hate most of my fellow countrymen for, admittedly unfairly. I'd also like to point out that, having lived in Europe for 1 1/2 years (me being American), I was highly unimpressed in many aspects. Americans seem mindless and crass, but literally tons of the people I met I found to be the absolute height of hypocrisy. I turn up my nose at people who eat McDonalds. But I absolutely can't stand people who talk endlessly about the evils of American capitalism and then swing by the old MacDo. The response: "European McDonalds are better". HAH! Yeah, maybe, because the meat is higher quality and they have that curry sauce, and you can order beer with your Royale with cheese... okay, maybe they are better in Europe, but it's still McDonalds. There are endless such examples...
Oh come on, there are tons of differing opinions on everything in this country. I think that is probably one of our societies downfall. There is no coherent force to set and obtain long term goals. I rather enjoy most people and cultures that I have got to experience but I am always glad to come back home to the States.
whenever a topic comes up "such and such people strike me as stupid/arrogant/mean/insert any other vast oversimplification of a massive quantity of people here" i feel it's safe to assume the speaker has their head firmly planted in their anus and should thus be ignored.
.................................................................................................... Americans pay Big Bucks for a huge burecracy to monitor and fight pollution. Environmental mandates are everywhere. Green attitudes have filtered throughout society everyone has some concern for the environment. Pollution concerns are a big reason we are chasing our factories and thier jobs offshore to other nations where pollution is not seen as a problem.
has anyone noticed there's been no more posts from the OP? maybe it was that he was caught mispelling facile and was caught by an american. very embarassing. after all, we're all mouth breathing, drooling trogs, right?
That's the kind of hollier than thou attitude that really pisses me off. I can say way of life invented fast food and war. It gave us MacDonalds and Burger King and guns and tanks . But i'll save you the bother.
Ohhhh Jobs, We give them jobs so they can by our useless crap at high prices, cause their all out of diamonds, gold and oil. so we can turn those *developing* nations into psuedo-Americanist lapdogs, and those that aren't are gearing up for the day that America decides to go Emperical (openly). Hence Koreas, China, and Iran/Syria And whoever posted that bullshit about tanks and whatnot... go fight a fuckin war or sumthin, your Nationalistic views make me want to punch a baby, cheering the government that put you in chains. and then BOASTING about it to the rest of the world, so what, other places aren't perfect, but I bet in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Ghana, Mongolia, and everywhere around the world, those people are having the time of their lives, amongst the horrors and tragedies of war, there are still those who are fighting and dying for what they believe in. and before whoever starts shoots into something about their way of life. That's why your not there, you don't like it, don't go. So at second thought, yes we are rather fascile sitting by and letting our government make our decisions, but unless your typing from the bottom of an impromptu bunker, STFU
