You don't learn highschool until you apply it to the next level.

Girl, you have got such the right attitude!! (God, I sound like someone off of "Jerry Springer", *puke*, Lol!) But I maintain what I say though. Really, fuckin' well done, girl!! Shit, it takes most people to be a lot older than you, just 16, to get wise enough to take that attitude.

On both counts, the fact you obviously have hunger for knowlege which is such a wonderful thing (..."knowlege is, indeed, that which, next to vertue, truely and essentailly raises one man above another"...) Also your 'water off a ducks back' attitude too to what others may or may not think about you. Bravo. Well done you. ;)

Whaaa? I'm in the service industry. No, I'm not pulling down big bucks playing Candystand Billiards and waiting for Ted from Ergonomic Recovery to e-mail his report on Saddle-Lift chairs to make me feel somewhat productive in the corporate instrumentality, but I do manage to meet a few interesting people now and then.

School (and life) is what you make of it. I dropped out at 17, ended up on the streets, found my way back to the school counseler, got my GED in 2 weeks, the real diploma with another 2 day studies, spent 3 years partying in college, and went off to be the failure I am today.

The point is, formal education is a piece of paper you can lay in front of an employer to show them you can put up with shit like school. If you want to be gopher it's a plus, if you want to have a life it really doesn't matter. They were employing people long before they had bachelor's degrees, and I still believe anyone who's got enough sense to get out of the rain can be a productive element of society. My credo has always been Einstein never completed high school, he couldn't drive a car but man could that man think.

I am also a fairly successful person, myself. I manage to have a decent apartment, a decent car, in a decent school district to raise my kid in. However, my life would be a lot easier if I had gotten an education. I'm not saying that it is impossible to make it without an education, but it is that much harder. And I really don't think that it is going to be any easier in 10 years, when this kid is trying to survive on his own. Yes, life is what you make of it, but there are many more opportunities for those with a solid education behind them.

Now, that's good sence! That's what I was trying to say too. So good to see I'm not alone in my way of thinking. Good on you for having such a smart veiw on this! :)

Also to the person who said "...people were getting employed long before batcholar derees were about...." True, yes. But I'm doing a degree, and who knows if I'm smart enough to get it at the end of three soild years of working my ass off for it, but I got to tell you although I am doing it to get into the career I've always dreamed of doing, I am doing it also for ME. The sence of acomplishment I will get if do manage to graduate with it, wow, that is something that will, to me, be priceless! A person victory. To all of those who wrote me off as 'nothing' can all keep to their 'McDonalds' jobs and weep at my success!!! Sorry if that sounds bitchy but so many have me written off as someone who will never amount to much, and they are no one to judge me, they haven't done shit with their lives themselves!!! So, YEAH, I WILL have a sence of self pride, why the hell shouldn't I? Anyway my point got slightly lost with my 'rabbling' what I'm getting at is education isn't just about, as you said, '...a piece of paper to lay in front of an employer...' it, for a lot of people also something for THEMSELVES. Raise they feeling of acomplishment/self worth/confidence etc, etc......as well.;)

Yeah it took me 2 years to develop my positive attitude towards school. Fuck school you say? My friend, when you get out into the real world and have to work and someday maybe support a family you'll be wishing you were back in school. ;)

When you go out into the real world, you'll know the piece of paper you received from four years of bullshit book learning means nothing. [IMG]

I think the big issue is that people think that school dropouts are people who don't like learning. I don't know if we're only talking about high school dropouts, because I dropped out of college after, of course, finishing HS, so someone please clear this up for me![IMG]
The thing is, I love learning. However, school was not an environment in which I could learn, as seems to be the case for many people. I want you to understand that I am not putting down school, I'm simply asking people to STOP being such damned elitists about it! Even in college, the majority of my peers were complete idiots, so don't assume that because you're in school, you're automatically a great, brilliant person, or that those who aren't in school are not. It's really getting on my nerves.
I'd also like to say, for all those who say "Fuck school" and whatnot, school is a very good learning environment for some people, as awful as it may be for you. Be open minded, you're just giving the rest of us dropouts an even worse reputation!
Thank you for bearing my rant![IMG]

i dont mean to be rude or anything, but where do you plan on goin in life? i understand droping out of college, but middle school or high school are necessary for the rest of your life. at least thats how i feel, and i understand thats just my opinion.

Middleschool is repetitive, busywork, bullshit. It was a waste of time and a waste of my life.

Did I not mention that already? [IMG]

This can't apply to me though because after high school I'm not going to college, I'm going to work from my computer, I'm already making money online and what could be more fun then working from home where I can be lazy all day? :p

Just two words can clear up this whole situation and render nearly all previouse posts null ahem: HOME SCHOOLING.Oh, and also, where did Gandi go to school? Say he's one in a million? How about the whole Iroquios Nation? The Lakota? The Creek? The Choctaw? The Blackfoot? The Titon Sioux? The Inca? The Maya? The Aztecs? The early Egyptians? The Apache? The Algonqian? They were some of the best minds in the world, and guess where they went to school? Benjamin Franklin had only two years of schooling! The Egytians were able to figure out that the earth was round hundreds of years before the schooled Europeans did, and not just one mind you, all of them! All the people who shaped early science sat in a room and figured it out! Albert Einstein didn't do well in school! So think again before you say we need school to learn anything. In this day and age, maybe to get yer friggin' degree, but not really!

Woa, slow down, you still havn't come to terms w/ my previouse post! Seriously, what have you got to say about it?Oh, and guess what? You can buy your way through college, fix an election, be pretty much the stupidest, foolish(yes, there is a distinction) guy in the world, and still become "president".Also, to further prove my point that school is pretty much useless: I am currently in school because of some bullshit reasons. I have only ever completely went through two full years of school. I am a straight A student and the top of my worthless "accelerated" class. If school's so goddamn important, then please explain that!
