I think I could manage not to want to set every pair of Crocs I see on fire if it wasn't for the fact that every other person in my town is wearing them.

    well, Okies don't have taste.

Although Crocs is based in Niwot, near Boulder, the manufacturing is in China (surprise!) and a maliquidora in Mexico.
Crocs (Western Brands LLC) went public on the stock exchange in August.
    CROX.
Maybe it would be a good investment in butt-ugly shoes

She feared correctly. While I loved my jellies, they hurt to wear. But then again, I've hated wearing shoes most of my life.

Yeah I don't think the trend has hit us here in California yet. Hopefully it won't hit at all (for both the sake of those who love them and those who hate them).

Ha! That's funny that they are trendy! i had never seen them before in my life until my friend gave me a pair. They loved theirs so much, they bought me a pair...and now i'm hooked. i was sKeptical at first, because they are UGLY but then i tried them on and they are sooo comfy!
Last year i injured my foot ( i tripped and impailed my foot on a stick, which then broke off in my foot). My foot has never been the same since and i can't wear most shoes...however these don't botter my feet at all! They are the only thing i can wear hiking, and they have great treads so i don't slip. i also use them as water shoes, as our creek has a slippery, rocky bottom...and these work great in the creek.
i doubt most people buy them because they are cute...lol. They ARE ugly, however i love mine more than any shoe i've ever owned. They are the ultimate festival shoe. This summer, i saw so many folks up to their ankles in mud at shows and festivals... just knowing they'd have to throw their shoes away after the festival. People were slipping and falling all over the place. With crocs, all i have to do is hose them off and i'm ready to go. They have great treads and you don't slip even in mud. You can also wash them in the dishwasher. Your feet do not sweat in them at all, and they are bacteria resistant and never smell.
i could go on and on..i swear i should become a crocs saleperson...i love them that much! i even had several folks stop me at festivals to ask me what i thought of them, and i couldn't say enough postive things.
i've had mine several years and i don't wear them because they are trendy (infact i had no idea they were). i live in a really rural area...and the only time i've ever seen anyone else wearing them is at a festival this past summer.

Here is some info about them straight from the site. Seriously, i should get paid for this. lol.

Top reasons you gotta have 'em

1.) Really soft, super comfortable, molds to your feet
2.) Barely there, weighing only 6 ounces
3.) Vented so air passes through, keeping feet cool

    And even more reasons

    4.) Non-marking slip-resistant soles*
    5.) Bacteria and odor resistant
    6.) Ultra-hip Italian styling
7.) Port holes allow water and sand to pass through
8.) Can be sterilized in water and bleach
9.) Easy maintenance, just wipe clean
10.) Orthotic molded foot bed for ultimate comfort and support

Don't knock them till you try them.

    hey Bree,
You can keep your Chacos! i'm happy with my crocs, and i'm guessing alot of other people are too! i can't imagine people would buy such ugly shoes because of a trend. They are catching on, because they are comfortable and great for your feet.
i don't dress to impress, and don't care what other think...i love, love, love my UGLY shoes!! :)

But Crocs cannot be resoled, limiting their lifespan, AND they use HUGE amounts of energy in shipping from China, a practise Chaco will not attempt again.
you can have my Chacos when you peel them off my cold dead feet.....
    Chacos rock, responsibly!

So using a bunch of nonrenewable materuials in a one-shot product (no repairs, replacing parts) is good ecological sense?
I loathe tevas for the same reason.
And I'll tell you no one wears chacos for fashion!
The ONLY benefit I know of to Crocs was illustrated by a 50 yrear old guy:
garden shoes, he said, kneeling in his footbeds.
Ok, my older pair of chacos are not comfortable thyat way. the newer ones, it worked in. (hey, when you resole shoes, you have to have a second pair in rotation)

    Hey folks!
Beware of the knock-off Crocs! i just saw them for the first time this weekend. i walked past a payless and saw them in the window on clearance for $5. i orginally thought they were crocs, until i picked them up..they are made of HArd Rubber or plastic...not comfortable at all. So watch out! Ugh.

drumminmama, you make some great points. i'm really socially conscious in a lot of what i do... However i'm not going to refuse a pair of free shoes (mine were a gift) because they are not 100% environmentally friendly. i do what i can, which is more than most and if owning crocs is the worst of it..so be it.

My point in replying to this thread is that they are trendy because they are super comfortable not because they are pretty. :)

Ps. your tye dyes are gorgeous!
