Yeah Halloween is getting a commercial holiday, sadly. I love it, it's my favorite holiday of them all, but I'm not a fan of all the mercantile hype around it.
well there are things i like and things i don't like. for one, its a month later then it should be (the real druidic samhain). a skin dancing transmorphing day is a good thing to have. humans get so boring to see all the time. the going around and visiting thing is good. having to be about candy and dead stuff is kind of meh. most places i've lived and where i live now the kids don't generally come around. all of us who live here are kind of strange in a good way to begin with though. so i sort of don't miss not having done anything for it. i'm not really much of a holiday furson myself. nothing against them, but it is kind of a hassle to remember soon enough to get things together to make a big deal out of some particular day. i do like the idea that we should have holy days on the primal points of the year, and not have them be about a person, but about the turning of the seasons and have big communal feasts on those days. you know what would be really good would be to have a day where everyone went around dressed up as furrys and aliens and instead of begging for candy, brought little pastry pies filled with meat and veggies to give each other. and of course instead of being about death and trying to be scarry, it could be about the magic of life and creativity. well of course that's the kind of world in my head.
There seems to have been a push to make it a thing here the last few years, I dont live in the burbs either, but doesnt seem to be working, only in nightclubs where girls where what they normally would but with white and black face paint
I agree. To me, it is not even a holiday. I never acknowledged it at such, never did anything for Halloween, and never will. I don't know at what point it became a popular thing in these parts of the world, but sadly it did. October 31st and November1st to me are a holiday entirely different from Halloween. That being said, I actually like children and enjoy a majority of holidays.
Well, here we are at Nov 1st and looking at Thanksgiving....I am not a fan of Thanksgiving......ever since I lived in a apt once and was awakened by kids outside with a turkey screaming and they were slaughtering it. That was on one Thanksgiving day. Halloween make believe horror is nothing compared to that.... However, with my brother visiting, the show must go on. I work my ass off this month with major cleaning...and when I major clean, every little thing must be washed things, books, everyone of them is vacuumed....washing walls, molding....etc....etc....everything...It takes me several days to complete one room. Cleaning goes beyond just vacuuming the floors....then the major shopping and the major cooking where I am a maid in the kitchen making everything under the sun....then the eating.....and rest of weekend and more cooking and making sure everyone is happy, and then when all is said and done, I am free to collapse....
I don't mind Halloween. It's better than the other holidays for me. But I usually am not at home handing out candy. After my set last night, my wife and I went around the corner to the gay bar for a little while. Her costume was a male flasher. Holy shit....that was so much fun. You Halloween haters are doing it wrong.
It is not about candy for me, either, and no trick or treaters find this house......I love the imagination, spooks and scary....color....ghost stories, etc...but I love that all year round anyway. Halloween was my dad's birthday, so we always celebrated it colorfully. I am not really into many holidays...most of them are for card companies and stores to make money, anyway. I do like New Year's Eve.....December is always a very pretty month,,,,,,,,Red things in white snow always captures my fancy.....This month is so dank and grey, usually...... The wind out there tonight was unbelievable....Thought a tree might fall down on my head out there today.....leaves swirling around like crazy.....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............I wish I had a fireplace in this house to cozy up to.
little kids have no concept of what movies/shows are new or old. let a 4 year old watch dumbo and he thinks it's the first time anyone's seen it.
I don't know when I was 4 years old anything in black and white was old; anything in color was new Hotwater
