No, I Was Dressed And Wearing Safety Glasses, I Always Do This Because The

Only Way I Can Detect Bad Joints Is To Have The Battery Bank Under Load,

Either Charging Or Discharging, And As You Would Know, Batteries When They Are

Working Produce Hydrogen Gas Which Is Highly Flammable.

So There Is Always A Slight Risk Of A Spark From A Bad Connection I Am Working

On Setting Off An Explosion, The Risk Is Very Low Because These Batteries

Have Have What They Call A Spark Arrestor Fitted In Place Of The Normal Filling

    Cap.

Still There Are No Prizes For Getting Sprayed With Acid And Burnt In The Explosion.

Hence The Reason I Wear A Thick Tracksuit And Eyewear...:).

    Sorry To Dissappoint You...[IMG].

    Cheers Glen.

Looks like they operate around 3500V and above. There are different zap energies that the energizer puts out depending on what type of creature you want to control, anything from a small fraction of a joule to a number of Joules.

There are issues with using such an arrangement in residential areas, legal and others types. Someone in a neighborhood not far from me was using this kind of electric fence in a residential area to keep animals and children out of his yard. It made his house an attraction of sorts for teens and troublemakers in the neighborhood who were looking for a thrill, the opposite effect of what he wanted. Eventually people complained to the police. A police officer came over to see what was going on and got zapped by the electric fence.

I remember touching pos and neg cables to a battery before and sparks came off so I've alway been afraid to touch them. I guess I don't need to be.

Well, as long as this didn't happen.:D Sounds like a sweet set-up.

no worried unless your hands are made of metal

and Glen..I seen what happens when a spark ignites a charging battery...my dad would be blind probably if he didnt instintively close his eyes while connecting booster cables...it blew the top of the battery inand made quite a mess under the hood of a truck you would have loved (diesel landcruiser bj42)

I've been shocked by electric fences--hurts,but builds a solid memory in your memory bank! Spark plugs create a zen moment for sure when touched. The only thing in the world that exists in that split second is you and the plug.Another solid memory.

State Pen or county lockup..... ha, ha, just kidding [IMG]

When I was canoeing down the connecticut river I came ashore and some farmer built an electric fence surrounding his propery to contain his cows and when I touched it I got quite a jolt :afro:

you should be able to touch and electric fence as they operate on a pulse system (for cows that is... The interior fence of a state prison is not electrified. It has sensors, but no voltage..

Do they conduct public association meetings?
I would suggest you guys study the association rules and bylaws and I'm sure there is something concerning controlling your pets and related issues. Find out what portions of the association charter they are in violation of, and bring it up at the next public meeting. If you can back it up with police reports, video, etc. and the specific portions violated, present it to everyone at the next meeting. Most associations have some forum for airing disputes before the association. Just because they run the association does not mean they are above the rules, especially if it is contested publicly. You may find out that your not the only one having problems with these people and at best get them voted off of the association board.

Use their own rules against them, publicly, then what are they going to do, say they are exempt? I'm sure that would go over big with the other neighbors. ;)

We're not in good standing, so we're not allowed to attend the meetings. And voting them out will never happen, they kiss too many people's asses out here. They ran the whole association into the ground and it would take a mutiny by now to overturn it. And really...it's just not worth it. Might as well just bitch about them because that's about all you can do.

I have sympathy for every point you make save for this complaint in light of this event,

    - "As retaliation for us calling the EPA on them,"

Campfires emit a lot of particulates not good for air quality. If your serious about environmental concerns then it is odd that you would find yourself incredulous over receiving complaints.

Wow...that's really...wow. That's all I can really say. They were ILLEGALLY dumping unknown chemicals into the lot next door to my house, shit that made us sick. We live uphill from a water source that many towns depend on for drinking water, imagine what could have been leached into the soil over all those years. How can you even compare the two? We cook outside sometimes, last I checked that's not high on the list of environmentalists' concerns. We turned them in because they were making us sick, they come over and give us shit just because they want to.

smoke from campfires makes me sick and gives me migraines

    just sayin'

    even cigarettes can trigger it

start a small fire in my yard and the fire department will come to put it out...then hand me a bill for their services..and possibly a fine for violating the town bylaws

My point is that they do, and further you should expect a certain level of antipathy from them. Just because your actual impact may in truth be small, that fact does not mitigate your adversaries ire in this instance.

Like I say, I support every observation you've made except for your sense of righteous indignation at a predictable response.

I would point out that there is no indignity in being righteous and rightness cannot be had save we share in it.

The point is that dumping hazardous waste illegally is illegal. Barbecuing outside is not. Anyway, we haven't used the fire pit in years and we haven't grilled in well over a year either. And they have stopped dumping their waste in the lot next door. We had every right to turn them into the EPA, that did not give them a right to make up a story to get the police to waste time and resources tearing my house apart only to find that we in fact, were not harboring the "motherlode" as they apparently described it, they WERE dumping shit illegally. The only reason they came to us to bitch about our outdoor fires was because they have a giant flammable fence and pine trees lining the property. They were afraid we'd catch their house on fire, which was fucking stupid because we had taken every precaution before even starting the fire. It's not like we want our house to burn down either. They were more likely to burn down their house cooking dinner than we were grilling dinner. The problem is that they are nosy and meddlesome and I have the kindness to leave them alone and would like the same courtesy.

The fact that you may be supported by law, as I am trying to point out, is not relevant to them in this dispute. Those facts have not made you happy. It is the mutual antipathy that is driving this situation. Your next store neighbor feels as attacked as you do. They feel violated as you brought down the heat on them and you feel violated because they brought down the heat on you.

What kind of future do you imagine for yourself in your present location with your present neighbors? You hate your neighbors because you think you have good or right reason to hate them. If I was in your situation I would ask myself would I rather be right or would I rather be happy.

I take it your neighbors are no longer violating the environment to the extent of causing you alarm. I understand you have experiences with your neighbors, but as you have described them, each and every one represents a past that no longer exists and you could be free of it's effects, i.e. hate, if you would refrain in your own mind from recalling every offense, because as often as you do, you are violated. It is not their past you hold against them but yours.
