    welcome to our community!

just wanted to offer a few words of advice to all you guys who are planning on travelling in buses - if you're gonna do it full time and not work full time then dont, whatever you do, get an old vw bus!

i only say that coz i had the same plans and dreams that you guys did, and as soon as i turned 18 i went out and bought an old vw. then it broke down - again and again and again and again! its the same story with all old vehicles. unless you're working full time or a mechanic then you have to have a full time job to pay for them!

instead what i did was get bundled down with a whole load of debt trying to keep the damn thing on the road all the time, and the debts meant i wasnt free to travel, which had been the whole point in the first place!

aswell as the constant breaking down, they are also to small to live in. even with the roof up on mine i could only just stand up. and in the winter it gets very very cold!

what i have done now is got myself a ford transit. not very hippie i know, but it is relatively new (actually, it was made in 91 so its the same age as the new guy!!) and easier to fix. it also tows my caravan about, which has a wood burning stove in it, otherwise theres no way i'd have made it through the winter on the road!

i would love for it to work out for you guys, but you have to be realistic. if you're going to travel all over the world, either take a mechanics course or get the newest vehicle you can possibly afford.

if it breaks dont borrow money. borrowed money = loss of freedom, (or banks chasing you - neither option is all that agreeable!)

and whatever you do - make sure you have the time of your lives!!

hope some of what i've said has been helpful. feel free to email or msn me if you want to chat more about life on the road. i've been doing it full time since last may and on and off since late 97, so i may have a few helpful words for you.

    peace and love

stardust - that's why we're getting a coach. bigger, better quality. it'll be expensive to buy, but after that it'll be quite free

On the subject of buses i've often thought that the old london double deckers would be awesome or american school bus style, preferably double deckers though....the great thing about buses is they are incredibly cheap...

Hairbair, did you go to mascalls? there was some dude i knew and talked to for a while on here, so tis probably you! anyways, yay for paddock wood, centre of the universe and all that shit...i lived in matfield all through secondry school.

anyways, im in cornwall these days, just wanted to big up the paddock wood massive as im bored of writting up electronics.

as to the original poster...it's nice you feel you are part of something, even if there are few people part of it near you. I'm no amazing hippy, though i am known as hippy to alot of my flat mates, but as one of them once told me, it's not because of how i look or owt, it's more of who i am...if that makes sense? :p
