HAHA I know it's worse. I dont have cigs though, so I wont smoke. I havent bought any cigs in 2 weeks , though I did bum 2 last night from my friend, but I've been really cutting back.
Good for you on the smoking cutbacks. Unfortunately I'm an extremely short-sighted, cancer-stick addict.
You can get it anywhere they sell vitamins and supplements. Any grocery store or drug store should have it. I dont know how effective it is, but its produced naturally in our brains when we get tired and a lot of people say it will help you get on a good cycle. You know when youre feeling awake, then you turn off the lights to watch a movie or whatever and start to pass out? Thats the melatonin kicking in. You might want to do some research though. Ive heard people say negative things about it, I just cant remember what. But I do know its a naturally occuring chemical unlike sleeping pills. Check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin
I wish! From what I read there, it doesnt have any really bad side effects, and the ones is usually at higher doses. The only thing it said it can cause vivid nightmares and my dreams are already EXTREMELY vivid (when I do get to sleep), I never have nightmares though, or very very rarely. I'll sure give it a try when I get back to Canada.
Yeah that sounds right, it probably does something to increase REM cycles. Ive been having rather vivid dreams myself lately. Let me know how it works out.
Yeah, you shouldn't meditate before bed, it does keep you up. Instead, meditate after waking up, so you can start the day refreshed, and hopefully be tired enough for bedtime Going to bed just after meditating is the equivalent of going to bed just after naptime; meditation is a regenerator, which is why it's such a good alternative for sleep.
I dunno, I thought you spent most of your waking life on hipforums XD Or are you secretly meditating while typing? I must say, if you are, it's a pretty useful talent
I have been spending a tad too much times on the forums lately. That's probably because I'm living in the middle of a cow field far away from civilization. Plus, I find these forums to be extremely meditative. Posting here sharpens my thought pattern and makes me focus on everything and nothing at the same time. People have a very silly stereotype of meditation... involving the lotus position and a whole lot of other bullshit. I constantly feel in peace with myself and the world, and am constantly aware of it all. I do not need to make myself sit down, get quiet, and chant "OMMMMMMMM" in my head in order to meditate. Anyhow, the point of this is that "meditation" is a very broad term, and it's hard to suggest "meditation" to a person as a cure for anything.
This is true, although I find it very hard to meditate fully in anything but complete peace. Although I guess I can be really peaceful and at one with the world when I'm on a bus, or playing the guitar. It's sort of a semi-meditation to me.
Uhhum. I've just always felt that forcing yourself to sit in one position, in complete silence, is the complete opposite of meditation.
Its a means to the possible same end... its all in your head, no matter the body position. The lotus position works because of the confidence given to it, just as any ritual. What works to me to sleep is to forget time and be completely open to thought, but not focus on anything. Very different from meditation around a specific thing... but perhaps not too different from the "ommmm" sort of thing.
