When I am with them, I tune out their -ve comments, and spend as much time as possible showing sincere interest in pleasing them.
It sometimes makes it a little better, sometimes not.
But it helps me stay +ve.

I understand your point

Its just that she has worn me down, I see her almost everyday. Her own daughters have given up and can't stand to be around her. (hence me being alone with her every holiday) I don't do what they do because I understand a few things that they do not:

She still deserves my respect
No matter how neagative she is, she still wants to be loved.
My children are one of her few joys, even though she is a person that doesn't understand how to really process joy.

and most importantly, she will not be with us forever

So I do what I can and hope she feels loved by me, and pray for the strength not to wrap my hands around her neck and choke her until my hands cramp up
