RE: the "gooey" pitch-shifting tone that adults use around babies is actually helpful to the baby. this sort of talk allows their brains to develop and replicate language more readily

    NONSENSE.

We spoke to our kids like people as of day 1. Our kids started speaking earlier and speak better than all the other kids.

well, all kids acquire abilities at various rates, which, by the way, is no reflection of the child's ultimate abilities or performance.... but the sciene still holds true, so you don't have to use capslocks with me--take it up with the researchers. i didn't make all this stuff up:

"At first, infants respond only to the prosody--the cadence, rhythm, and pitch--of their mothers' speech, not the words."

To me the NEWBORN Baby's are all just dreadfully ugly. What is the Lie Factor of the treacherous pics of that hidious looking newborn? Who can say never have had to unwilling view a photo of an ugly newborn and just flat out LIE and say how cute an obvious doomed mongloid baby is...do what you got to do to get that damn picture out of your face...LIE, I think mostly we just feel obligated to lie.

No, don't have any kids, I am sterile and baren. I don't say I hate babys just that newborns are ugly to me. I just am like not wanting to have people all like 'look at little Hanna playing in the toilet, go get the camera honey" blah blah blah, I know alot of people are parents and I respect that, just think it is nice to go visit others kids, only I just am like thinking it is nice to be able to go home and all. I was ugly when I was a baby...and still am as an adult :)

taxing folks for kids is rediculous. I think peopel who hate kids have some deep rooted issues with their own mothers/ caregivers from their own childhood. Or those of you who dislike children/ babies jsut don't have them but don't push your views on child lovers. Were the people who make kids into positive humans. Hate causes hate. YOu want a stinky ugly adult treat it like it stinky and ugly as a child. Remember you were a child once too. Someone had to move off the sidewalk for you once or twice so shut the f* up.

Oh man, I had forgottne about this thread. I wish I hadn't becauase there is so much good stuff to reply to, but I can't do all of it now.

Anyhow, I don't hate babies, that would be rather pathalogical. I do however find babies to be amazingly irritating and repugnant. What I do hate is parents who treat their babies badly, you know the kind of person who never should have had a kid in the first place. Abusers, neglectful parents, parents who dress their five year old daughter like Brittney Spears, real sickos you know. I've seen parents treating their kids in a way that would get them thrown in jail if they acted the same towards an adult. but I digress.

To the person who likes babies when they are not stinky , screaming, crying, barfing, drooling, or pooping: Yeah, okay fine with me, and how often does that happen? Perhaps never?

To the person who thinks that babies and toddlers are the purest expression of God in the world, or some such thing: This is exactly the kind of brainless syrupy gushing that I'm talking about. Is God really expressed in horrendus screams, uncontrolled emission of bodily fluids, and the wanton spreading of filth onto every surface within reach?

That's all for now, sorry about the length but I had some cathing up to do.

I have a 3 year old. He isnt any of those things most of the day..wahts yoru point...that you dont have children and don't care enough to be with them long enough to know you have not a clue what your talking about...?

Your not born perfectly clean and knowing how to use the bathroom. The things kids do are to learn hpow to use their bodies and their brains together in unicen (sp) with the surrounding world. Experiences which cause messes or let them make noise help them learn and is far more beautiful tehn a quiet child with no real develompental experiences. The quiet and clean child is the one who you should look out for. Later in life will have a set of problems societe will ahve to fix in a different way.

Babies- they're alright as long as *I* don't have to deal with them
Toddlers- remind me of that movie Gremlins, when all the cute little fuzzies turned into drooling, ravaging, evil, slimy little beasts.
Pre-teens- I absolutely can't stand them, especially girls. They're about to hit puberty, and all those hormones turn them into mini-Britney bitches.

Once they are wrapped in a blanket and have a little hat on THEN they become cute.

I think we could push toddlers a bit, teach them to start knowing how to read. I don't mean school, I just mean mom or dad sits down with them for 30 minutes a day and has them read an easy easy book to them. Sure you'd have to teach them the alphabet and whatnot, and help them with most the words and whatnot, but it'd be worth it. We could also teach them a little music.........

Babies scare me, I have hands the size of dinner plates and I always feel bloody awkward holding a baby, like I'm gonna drop or break it or something, I'd feel a lot better if they were covered in springs like maggie in that episode of the simpsons.

In other news I wish it was illegal for people with certain types of illnesses to have children, like those whose lungs deteriorate until they die a horrible death

I take my child to a preschool that works closely with children on such a human level that I'm use to being around people who love kids and who care about them so much I can't even fathom saying some of the things you guys are about them and what you think they need etc. Ignorance is NOT bliss. Children are people too. Thank goodness for folks who care because there are too many who don't.

Ya its pretty sad when these people who are talking like this about our children will be the very people who are wiping their ass in the nursing homes.

Every age brings new self discovery..... I think compassion is what your forgeting here. Your emphasizing on what bothers *you* ...well what about the person going through all the hormonal changes? I remember as a teen and preteen that it wasn't all that easy.

If you want to know the answers, just ask a teenager (12-17) while they still know it all.
