I spoke spanish today.

who or where did you learn spanish? it sounds like a book.. your translations are too literal. I get what you mean. we talk enough, I could get you to speak it a bit better.

 

Most Spanish I learned was self taught. From books, tapes, and software.

Also I pick it up as I go.

I also went to immersion school for a month.

In December I am going to Guatemala to spend 6 weeks in another Spanish School.

I really suck at remembering things and learning.

For Business interactions and buying weed you might think I was totally fluent.

Basic stuff I am okay with.

The problem is I think in English not Spanish.

I failed Spanish in High School..but that was mostly cause I skipped school too many times.

hilder,do you find your mannerisms change when you speak spanish?
reason i ask is that dilli speaks fluent spanish and lived in the culture for several years and when she speaks spanish its like she changes into a different person,like she becomes a hispanic from mexico.. i duno if ya get what im sayin but if ya do,,do you?

no. not really. thing is, that its mexican spanish, and to my dismay, I sound exactly like my mother. I was never comfortable speaking spanish because of that. when I speak it at first, I stumble though lots of ums ands and likes peppered in the conversation. Im sure dilli likes to speak it and is comfortable with it. I always tried my hardest not to be or sound like a stereotypical mexican, so, no.
I dont have a mexican accent either. if ya heard my voice, i sound like a white girl. my spanish is the same. also, minimal spanish slang.

hahaa it just popped in my head. what mexicans call "fresa". hah ask dilli what that means. only not quite so bad. I still use " 'pos."
god i bet that made no sense.

I took 4 years of French....aced the classes but don't know shit. Never did spanish.
