Incidentally it is SO hard to find unbiased information on this topic. Everything seems to be written by either insane vegans or insane anti-vegans.
I agree 100%. Animals with normal udders and lower yields. Maximizing them in the way its been done in intensive farming is a form of mistreat.
yeah, that whole lab processed foods thing worries me. You're health conscious yet suggesting we eat foods man-made in a lab instead of from their natural source. I don't understand that
This is the second time you've said this.. I don't know what you read in my posts that makes you think i'm "getting upset" ?? It's a debate? to YOU it isn't. My conscience, you know, the one given to me by God(s)/mother nature ; ) feels that pigs being eaten is no different than humans being eaten. And the cruelty in the industry (which can be abolished without abolishing meat, I agree) is equal to FGM, to me. But maybe I misread. It sounded like you were saying you can't support things that abolish other cultures. But you meant just on this topic. Gotcha.
So when they grow new body parts for people..?? Are you against that? You're assuming it will be unnatural. What if they can grow meat? I don't see how that is inherently unnatural or unhealthy? You're being biased by associations.
And it ISN'T a natural source. Going out and hunting a deer. That's a natural source. Eating a cow that's been stuffed with hormones and bred for high yield. That's not natural.
and obviously most people are buying this natural source of protein and nutrients wrapped in plastic from a supermarket. So no. I don't think aiming to grow meat in a lab is anything to worry about. I support it. I also support making burgers out of insects.
There's organic meat from domesticated cows. Definitely in the realm of natural. Unlike lab grown muscle and meat tissue...!
I mean... vaccines are created in labs.. medicine comes from labs.. why is meat from labs so horrific to consider? What if it could be grown, and was literally just meat? It's cells.. grown into a burger.. what's inherently unhealthy about that? Genuinely curious. The response against it seems emotionally driven, to me.
I'm trying to gather truth by reading articles that either say "Vegetarianism will solve the problem" or "Vegetarianism won't solve the problem!" ..as I say, unbiased information seems hard to find. But these things seem to be true: Over 10 pounds of plant protein are used to produce one pound of beef protein. The Stockholm International Water Institute's report notes that one third of the world's arable land produces grain to feed livestock rather than people. A vegetarian diet commandeers five to 10 times less water than a carnivorous diet.
Repeated uses of all caps in words plus the fact that when I responded to no one in particular you immediately went "are you talking to me?" The fact that you had to bring up old ish from another thread. Its just seems like you're upset with me which is the last thing I want. As for lab grown meat? I don't really eat a lot of processed foods (well, I didn't. Coronavirus lockdown has a way of ruining your diet ). I'm not going to start now. I'm fortunate enough to live in a coastal city. I can forage at the beach and buy fresh fish from a market right on the wharf. I also live in a place with a climate suitable for growing vegetables year round. I always buy fresh locally sourced vegetables. My idea of a perfect date is a cute girl taking me to a farmer's market. Sure, I get cellophane wrapped chicken, beef, and pork from a grocery store. So yes I am part of the problem. But I know that, and I accept it, and I don't need other people to point it out to me
Interesting. I don't know enough about farming to debate this but it sure sounds reasonable. But again... meat is more satiating than vegetables so that might offset all of that. At the end of the day, the big culprit in 1st world western nations isn't what we're eating. I think its overeating. We don't need a double cheeseburger to survive
o__O I use all caps for emphasis.. because it's easier than click the "italics" button. I was genuinely asking if you meant me I brought up the "conscience" thing with a winky smiley .. I'm sorry I "just seem" upset.. haha.. but you're simply reading too much into too little : ) Uh.. i'm.. really not. That's all I can say!
I don't know what vegetables you're thinking of. But I think this is subjective. Like, legumes and etc. I feel satiated.. when I eat. Uh. I just don't think this is a "fact".
I still don't think growing meat needs to be considered processed. Like I could grow a lettuce under lights in a lab, doesn't make it processed. Don't really know enough about the possibilities here though. Will research.
Cucumber, diakon radish, lotus root, taro... omg I love taro root! Gobo, carrpt, mushrooms, cabbage, none of this fills me up. Only vegetable to make me feel full is potatoes but potatoes are a vegetable like a chicken mcnugget is meat
Again, this sounds emotional. Of course you can find OTHER issues that need to be addressed. I eat cheese. I contribute to this. I don't feel the need to start listing other things that are worse.. or finding other ways that the planet is being fucked up worse. And you say you don't need it pointed out to you (that you're part of the problem). but.. you clicked on a thread titled "I support the gradual abolition of meat" .. it didn't come to you. If you don't want it pointed out to you.. don't take part in discussions pointing it out.
