I have been told that when margarine is made, they heat the oil up until it goes black. If the oils are not hydrogenated, how is it solidified? Sunflower is high in omega -6 , so I would try to avoid it.
I eat lots of sunflower seeds : ) I dunno, all I know is I feel healthy and energetic, and I am content and happy most if the time, so I'll keep doing what I do.
The production process gets all the nagging, not the ingredients. But I agree, margarine is not so bad and can even be beneficial. In response to Bilby I would say: one can also consume margarine in a normal balanced diet, much better than a low fat diet. One does not have to replace margarine for all uses of butter. Just consume both.
Animal fats are also healthy though. Most fats are healthy, certainly in moderation, for the average person.
We're not even in utter disagreeance this time! I'm adding thoughts, not countering. Well, except the faulty notion that margarine is crap in all situations. And that meat should be abolished. And so is she
I didn't say that animal fats were unhealthy? I did say, several times, that i'm sick of debating this stuff with you. Look, even other posters know what to expect! But yes, I realise you aren't outright disagreeing. You're just soooooooo baaaaaaaaaaaad at taking a hint. In more exciting news, Hip Forum alerts actually alerted me to being mentioned in a post this time!
I wasn't implying you were Just adding that part to the general convo. I saw no point in honoring it here
I would be a bit concerned about this. All the articles I found said that the UK has not banned trans fat, they just asked for companies to voluntarily stop. Quoted and linked from an article in The Telegraph. "In the UK, while the government has resisted pressure from campaign groups to legislate to ban trans fats, voluntary guidelines encouraging food manufacturers and retailers to cut them from their products has led to a decline in the level of trans fats in our diet since 2007." On your label it say 58.9 grams of Fat but then it says 13.5 grams "of which Saturates" meaning Saturated fat. So what type of fat is making up the other 45.4 grams? If it were mono or poly unsaturated fats it probably would have said so on the label and your margarine would be mostly liquid. "Unlike places such as the United States and Israel, in the UK manufacturers do not have to place warning labels on foods that contain trans fats to warn consumers." I haven't really researched the mood stabilizing effects of butter yet but I have always said, "Butter Makes Everything Better!"
It only alerts me when mcgul tags me too haha. I dont know what he's doing that the rest of us are too dumb to figure out Anyways more on topic. I am here once again to declare my eternal love for butter #teambutter
Thank you, Moon, for alerting me to this. I will do further research. I tend to usually buy the vegan "Flora" brand.. sometimes "Pure" is cheaper.. But maybe I will stick to flora from now on. Their website claims zero transfats. (my picture was Pure)
For some reason I decided to look into whether there was less cruelty in goat dairy than cow dairy and now i'm upset. I know everyone knows of a farm which "isn't like that" but as long as I see the kinds of things I see in those undercover videos... it's something that needs seriously addressing. It's easy to eat butter and say "not all farms are like that" but how many people know about where their butter comes from. It's already been said here, and I agree.. it's about not causing suffering. I don't care if we eat dairy but the creatures that let us should be respected and treated well.
Much the same as the cruelty on cow dairy farms. I don't really want to get into this though, because I've found referring to videos of cruelty brings out a very aggressive defence from people who don't want to hear it. Anyone can search on YouTube and see the videos.
