did you know that scots are descendants of irish who decided not to cross that bit of water that seperates the two landmasses (I have no idea the geographic names and I am far to tired to find a map, maybe someone from the uk will give us the proper geographical names but I hardly think they are really important, the names rather)

Plato's republic may have seemed totalitarian, and was manyn things, but it was definately not fascist. The republic was were philosophers could rule, but not where philosophers killed black people. catch the difference?

I actualy dont think its totalitarian. Its easy to dismiss it as that, but what do you need to rule? Knowledge of the forms. Now thats hardly totalitarian, is it?

Monarchy is exclusive to family. You're not even allowed to know your kids if your a ruler in plato's society, so this does not happen. Anyone could become a philosopher and gain knowledge of the forms. Not everyone can be born into the "right" family.

The question is who says when "you are" other philosophers not the public you represent

 

you're a philosopher when you have knowledge of the forms. Anyway, your not representing the populace, your doing what you think is best for them, as you are more qualified to make desicions is you can comprehend the complexities of the forms. Its a father knows best kinda place.
