If you have to try and control your use and fail at it...You are most likely addicted. And anyone who thinks addiction is weakness..Is not properly informed.

Addiction has a higher genetic component than type II diabetes.

One way to start to stop smoking is to spend more time with people who don't smoke.

I'm not saying marijuana is bad. In has some almost magical properties. But most anything beyond mediocrity has it's negatives.

Then why say its a weakness. Why not just say its a human condition, which it is for fucks sake. All humans experience addiction in different manifestations.

And Bill, I don't agree with your analogy. People may smoke too much weed, and become dependent on it. But it has positive health benefits. And few negatives, make it an arbitrary habit. Its the prohibition that "is a problem".

and maybe prohibition isnt the problem, its government. and maybe government isnt the problem, its the basic notion of power. maybe power isnt even the real problem, the real problem is humans.

you cant keep looking at the bigger issue when the only one youre in a position to change is the most basic one. weed IS prohibited. who cares whos blame a problem is? its prohibitions fault. ok, thats great, is prohibition going anywhere? well maybe. but not now. not tomorrow. not next week. not for another few years probably. so is it productive in any way to say that prohibition is the problem?

look i think some are missing the point. an addiction doesnt have to be bad for your health. an addiction doesnt have to have serious side effects with withdrawal, an addiction doesnt have to even have negative effects on your immediate life. the issue here is that the addiction makes someone do something they dont want. this is the issue of this thread. see? : "I WANT to stop smoking weed". the problem is that the person is not stopping, the avenue for this problem is that its being given to them for free.
the PROBLEM is TOTALLY unique to this person, because it regards their life and no one elses. their wants, not any one elses wants.

prohibition or at least anti-weed organisations will never drop if the issue of cannabis addiction is studied seriously and compassionately, and not passed off as the result of other problems, the result of prohibition, the result of being unstable before smoking weed, the result of having no self control. it just doesnt help anyone.

An incorrect opinion would be faking an opinion instead of telling your actual opinion...so basically a false opinion.

I don't mean that he's not addicted either, or any of that stuff...I'm just saying, from what he's said, he probably isn't addicted.

His goal was to just quit to lower his tolerance, not quit without intention to start again or quitting to avoid a problem (IE Drug test coming up etc)...it was just to quit to lower his tolerance.

So what purpose is there in turning down free weed when there's so backlash (mentally or physically) to smoking it.

I agree, people can be mentally addicted to pot or whatever, and not have any real side-effects other than finding life boring, but his topic, and his title don't really match. He shouldn't have titled it "I want To Stop Smoking Weed" and should've titled it something like, "Taking a Break for Tolerance." or something because when you read his post it gives more of a, I just want to be able to smoke less to get high...whereas quit kind of gives, not at all.

So as far as advice goes...just either be dedicated to taking a break and say no, or just not hang out with people who smoke...I mean, if you're getting free smoke, then I'd personally accept if my break was just for tolerance, but if you REALLY want to lower your tolerance, then you have to take a break.
