You're a sucker for subtle sarcasm?

Ok, well maybe the word subtle doesn't belong in that sentence.

I hate to say this, but I completely disagree with your essay. Here's this scenario, let's get rid of the military, completely do away with it. And oh, watch out for that bomb that's coming at your house. Oh shit, who do we call to protect us? You just did away with the military. That's like leaving a gaping infected wound open to fester and be invaded by germs. If there's no military, that leaves the entire US open to attack. You could at least have a little respect for the men and women who are busting their asses to make sure you can join highly respectable programs in high school just because you "think the uniforms are cute." I'm sorry, but you have some MAJOR growing up to do.

War sucks, and if violence hadn't started in the first place, it wouldn't be needed now, but the fact of the matter is it did. Long before organized government, people used violence against each other, and it will continue until humanity destroys itself. You can use analogies and cheesy overused cliches to protest it, but war is just a part of life and always will be and always have been. I, for one, am against violence as a way to get what you want, but I have all the respect in the world for those people willing to sacrifice their lives, their originality, and their comfortable lifestyles to make sure I can have mine.

You are completely entitled to your opinion, though, and it was wrong of your friends to call you a hypocrite. Just because you were in ROTC doesn't mean you have to be all for war or into joining the military. It gave you a chance to test the waters and you decided it wasn't for you. So your friends have no place in judging your feelings. But do try and have a little more respect for the military and the men and women who are brave enough to join it.

Well let me just start by thanking you all for your comments. They made me realize that I did do a few things wrong.

Ok, number 1, some of the spelling and punctuation that is the most drastic is in the comments that were posted on my entry. I'll admit that there might have been some mispellings in my entry but not as much as the first comment that looked like an entire essay and was just 2 sentences. The other comment is probably just like that. I entiled the comments as "here are some of the comments I was talking about." Maybe some of you should take a look at that before saying that I have bad grammar and punctuation.

Number 2, I do respect the men and women in the military right now what I don't like is that false advertising that the military uses to bring innocent people in. The whole thing about the $50,000 was supposed to be a joke but I guess a lot of things are lost while writing. I apologize for the corny-ness.

Ok and now I'll try to get to some specific things that people wrote. cerridwen, you said that the program that the children were treated so badly would not bring back dead soldiers and I agree but it may trigger something in the minds of the children in somehow join the military. Don't know how that may work but shit happens. It'll be very brave of them but I just think it's not the best thing to do due to the Iraq War's lack of neccesity. Please do correct me if I'm wrong but still be nice. I've noticed that some of you have gotten a little sour but that just might be me. Another thing, cerridwen, you qouted something about 9/11 from the entry that was written in caps. Well, that was a comment by one of my former friends. I never wrote that I thought approximately the same thing you did when I read it.

indescribability, you said that it seemed staged. Let me just say that it's not. I wrote that entry due to extreme boredom and thought that no one would really read it. Then I started getting comments and they weren't as bad as calling me a hypocrite and a back stabber. I got those by surprise and came here to see if it was wrong of them or wrong of me for writing something about a program in which I had spent 4 years in. After reading some of the comments here I realized that they were wrong for calling me these things and it was wrong of me for not having all of my facts straight.

I recently read my entry once again and saw that some things aren't very correct but it's too late now. But hopefully this will make people realize that I can take comments very well as long as you're nice. The comments that state that I am a hypocrite and a backstabber are things that I laughed at while reading them. But they still lingered through my head and made me worry. Then I came here thinking that people will be just a bit nicer. I'm not saying that you are all demons or in any way mean. You guys actually helped me a lot in realizing the things I did wrong. And I thank you.

If any one else had a question that I did not answer or a comment that I did not respond to please post it again and I will be happy to answer or respond.

Well it's good to know that at the very least, CD, there's some objective gained. I realize that the quote in caps wasn't what you personally wrote but it did give a better objective about your topic than what you wrote.

Very true. The only reason why I pointed out grammar (aside from the fact that I'm just anal abut that sort of thing) is when a person chooses to write an idea and is careless enough to have a body of work that's unbelievably grammatically incorrect, the reader reads it and (despite the point being made in the paper) sees it as a miseducated opinion.

Whether or not we agree with war (I'm as against it as most others are) I too respect someone who's willing to sacrifice their life for their country. Sadly, having corny-ness in a paper that's supposed to be serious is read as something either misguided or ilinformed on your part. :( oops for that!

One has nothing to do with the other. The point I was trying to correct you of is this: Kids who are abused as children - with the right therapy - hopefully grow up to be successful adults. With the lack of such therapy they don't join the military. Just because you had some kind of a screwed up childhood doesn't automatically enlist you in the army. The reason why you don't know how that may work is because it doesn't. People join the military for all sorts of reasons, but that's not one of them.
It was stupid for your 'friends' to have that level of a negative response, and it was absolutely wrong for them to say what they did. But maybe part of their issues with what you wrote stemmed from - as you said - not having your facts straight.

The next time you decide to write something like that - which isn't wrong to express that sort of opinion - again, make sure that you do go over it and get your facts straight. There are better ways to express your frustration with something. It doesn't matter if no one will read what you wrote or if there's a hundred who read it - it's more important that your thoughts are expressed properly first before putting them out.

Very well said! Thanks for that.

I always proofread what I write. Especially something like that. But like anyone, I sometimes miss a couple things.

And I guess I'll keep my "corny-ness" to myself. It was a bit careless of me to put something "funny" in an entry that has nothing to do with amusing people.
