Ha. I take back my comment in the other thread: I do find you stupid. The fact that you seem intent on arguing about how to pronounce the name of a state seems pretty retarded to me. There is no 'one true way' to say anything. Language is not an objective issue -- if enough people say a word in a specific way, that becomes a correct and accepted way to say it. Go and read some Olde English literature and you'll see what I mean. Hey, maybe you can go and dig up Chaucer's grave for writing Engelond instead of England. Or better yet, maybe you could get a life.
Ha! This thread is meant to be silly... but it is awesome that people are getting upset and offended over it.
I find it funny that you unload on people and then pretend it was all light-hearted and accuse them of being easily-offended. But that's just my sense of humour.
Hey antithesis, it's been awhile since we've crossed paths. I'm a transplanted New Englandah living here in Pahtland, Oregahn. What's all this I heah about pronunciatiahn?
Well, it accomplished my goal of causing people to get upset over something they claim doesn't matter... and that's funny to me.
If something like that is seriously your goal, that's pretty stupid. But really, you just realize you acted like a douche and are trying to cover for it. Pretty poorly, I might add. Don't worry, we've all done it, myself included. I've learnt that it's better just to own up to it. You're right though: this is stupid. I really don't know why I'm still arguing with you.
Hey Newo... great to see you on here Despite what some people think I was just messing around with the whole pronunciation thing. I was just thinking about it because when I worked at the Oregon Caves, most of the Park Rangers there were from out of state and they all pronounced it Ore-a-gone and it was funny when they would repeatedly say it all during the tours and people from Oregon would correct them. Everyone started practicing with each other to pronounce it Ora-gun. P.S. to Zorba... I said 'shut the fuck up' because you kept insisting that you are right about the correct pronunciation and you are not right. Look it up anywhere... it is not just a local tradition and you just can't accept that you are wrong.
Personally I think that implying that all the people in an entire state are too stupid to pronounce their state's name is kind of a douchey move... especially when you are talking out of your ass.
