Humour over the internet is vary hard to judge. People say many things that are meant to be a joke but get taken seriously. People say many things that are meant to be serious but come off as a joke.

The way to get around this is to base a person's posts on your idea you have of them, based on other posts of theirs, and to take it all light-heartedly. It doesn't always work, but it can help.
