Hey man, don't hate on tie-dye hoodies!
I just bought one from my teachers magazine.
    I got a school discount!
    WHOO HOO!
And, on the Birk remark, there's one difference, they're not hippies, they're YUppies.
    :)
    :p

I just can't stand when people try to put hippies into some kind of popular fashion cathegory. Hippies are not shoes that you ware this summer, and then it get's old.
Hippies are a serious reaction to world's problems.
Sadly, the world is still greedy, materialistic, consumer-oriented (buy and throw away) and imperialistic, now more than ever. We need hippie attitude towards life now more than ever if we don't want to be turned into consumer-robots with a bar-code on our ass.

I hear ya. I dress in whatever's cheapest at the thrift store and comes closest to fitting.

    I don't know what a "hippy" is and I don't care. If somebody's cool they're cool and if they're not, a uniform and a label don't help.

I'm in Santa Cruz right now--where "Hippy" is short for Hypocrite.

Hey bro, this is peace and love site, chill.
I love the Clash, and used to listen to the sex pistols, billy idol, johnny rotten, etc. Punk was really happening when I was about 20.
still is around here, for some, which is the way i like it, variety.
    Still, disco.....

You just reminded me of the summer of 84, I drove down the coast from BC to Berkeley, and you reminded me of a tie dye muscle shirt that I treasured for years. People there were way more friendly than they were here.
Although a guy ripped me off for ten bucks of grass.......it ended up bein grass, lawn style....I loved it there

obviously you dont know much about hippies because they were something from the '60s not the '70s, and you shouldn't be judging or stereotyping people

Why does it freak you out that most of the people on a HIPPY site are HIPPIES? Is it because you are missing something upstairs?

Why in the fuck would someone spend that much on sandals that were most likely made by slaves? Just go barefoot....

Guy you need to calm down, and go do something productive instead of bashing us for what we believe. Much love to you.

You should try barefooting sometime, feels better than wearing restricting shoes.

i know you said you were kidding, punkrocker, but it does bring up a pretty good point.

i'm going to use some stereotypes, so all appologies if this is offensive to anyone.

a lot of the stereotypical punk kids i was exposed to growing up held a lot of the same ideals as the stereotypical hippie kids. yet the stereotypical punk kids are always bashing the stereotypical hippies. in response, i'd like to quote operation ivy, "unity, as one stand together, unity, revolution's gonna come."

both groups stereotypically have similar views on politics. i'm not refering to members of either group who hang out at the mall with mommy's credit card. i'm not talking about the kids who imitated what they saw, i'm refering to the ones who were inspired by it.

decent punk music examples, that show the shared (stereotypical) views:
dropdead (songs like 'at the cost of an animal,' 'bosnia,' and 'protest' are all pretty good examples).
oi polloi has countless examples in their lyrics. (no filthy nuclear power, hands off nicaragua, the earth is our mother, etc., etc., etc.)
there's a hell of a lot more, but you get the jist of what i'm trying to say. listing two bands isn't sufficient, but i'm lazy, so it'll have to do.

the two groups are more similar than they are different. from what i've come to understand, they share the same diy ethic, political views, incessant hassling by cops, etc.

sure, the stereotypical punk kids are angry, and the stereotypical hippie kids are peaceful, but is that really grounds for conflict when we're fighting for the same thing?

i guess i just find the animosity contradictory and silly, maybe cause i've never completely understood it.
