I think a Ferrari would be pretty cool. But more realistically, relatively recently I contemplated a Ford Fiesta. They're something like 14k new. Consumer Reports said they weren't terrific though.

Perhaps they would. But there have been some successful retro modern throwbacks like the new Mustang, Camaro, Mini, Challenger, and Fiat 500. So there's a chance it could be done right. I'd say the new beetle and the PT Cruiser were duds. Sadly, it's almost impossible to turn a new beetle into a Baja Bug. The most disappointing throwback car I've seen was the new T-Bird that came out in 2001. It disgraced the 50s T-bird by shaving off the fins and giving it an awkward design

My father had a '57 Belvedere just like this one. '57's had single headlights.

    I actually own this one.

It's become a family heirloom. My grandfather bought it used in '56 and used it as a farm truck. I restored it to this condition while working as an apprentice at a body shop.

Very nice. When I was teaching 40 years ago we rebuilt an old early post war Willy's CJ. It was a student's.
The body was rusted so we welded on new sides from 18 gauge or something sheet metal. Turned out pretty well. He had the engine redone but then he put in two different gear ratio differentials and would engage four wheel drive on concrete, so I think he blew something up eventually.

Yours reminds me of this one from It's a Mad, Mad World.

if those solar powered bycicle things they build in university engineering departments were road legal, i wouldn't mind something like that to go to the store with so i could live out in the boonies.
that would be my idea of paradice. that and solar to run the computer and propane/methane to run the refrigerator and cook on. (i'm not massochistic enough to want to have to
chop wood all the time, but my dad would have. of course there are chainsaws, but they make a hell of a lot of noise and burn gas and i'd rather not do that either)
