You make an argument but I don't see you really correcting mistaken ideas. You repeat your beliefs but from what I have seen it doesn't solve anything and generally leads to more argument, further being that the bible is a book it is always open to interpretation. There is no doubt that you are more studied than most, all the same interpretation is interpretation. What makes you the arbitrator of what the bible says? Do you maintain some special appointment by god to do so? Just wondering because I didn't get the memo. I can see your effort and your sincerity but there are many who are just as sincere and diligent as you. The world and all that is in it belongs to god. God does you no wrong by giving a different interpretation to another. You make your agreements with god and others make theirs, each according to their gifts. Or would you then begrudge god his generosity? Martin Luther initiated the protestant reformation, did you have someone else in mind? What is your version of history?
Umm, that the bible is a big book of lies! The video I linked to clearly discredits the Bible and exposes the biblical God an an impossible contradiction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQBDGMj2h-c"]YouTube - In the beginning, God created injustice‏ It is very transparent that the bible and really all religions are man-made tools written to manipulate and control people. Do what God says or burn in hell... the sheeple believe, they are bred like tools to believe. Blasphemers weeded out and hung by the neck like morbid decorations, not that long ago.
I would have to say that if one studies only one religion or faith then they are narrow minded and have less knowledge of religion/faith ... an individual who studies religion, faith, teachings such as myself have a bigger scope of what is around all of us. My in-laws are Calvinists feeling their way is The Way ... they exclude many people and in my opinion are not very Christian at times, whereas I take the best of each religion/faith for me to have a "worldly" viewpoint that is not judgmental
Had a pastor once who stated that The Bible was a book of stories & some of the stories did not make the final King James cut.
Oh, I thought we were talking about how if you read the bible you will know God isn't real. Ironically contrary to what Christians believe and what not...
I could believe in the force. Until they made it all stupid and had to explain and quantify it..... The force is a way cooler idea than a bunch of parasites that you can qualtify to determine someone's level of control over their inner parasite... More power is more spiritually in tune, not more in tune with your intestinal freeloaders.
You see that's what's all fucked up in the world today. People getting an education from youtube. You watch that very simplistic, devoid of any real comprehension of the Biblical religions, completely lacking any research into the original languages and frankly asinine video and then come here and proclaim "The video I linked to clearly discredits the Bible and exposes the biblical God an an impossible contradiction" then have the gall to refer to others as "sheeple". Tell me relaxxx, just how much personal study of the Bible, it's times and cultures, the formation and transitions of the Biblical religions, etc., etc, you have engaged in, or is all your knowledge derived from videos made by idiots?
My mom said I should read the bible... I feel like reading it woud just piss me off. Can't imagine how much sexism, anti-gay, and intolerance is in that book. I realize it was written a long time ago, but I'd much rather read things about... other stuff... Christians can be funny creatures sometimes. Of course, not all are, but some are so close-minded. Then again, so are some athiests...
The new testament is a lot better than you think it is.. Jesus was a pretty cool guy. Not god, but he had some good stuff to say and was not at all intolerent.
you should, i read it every once in a while it's interesting as it's fairly early literature/history, a bit like reading homer and, of course, i like to know how to interpret the batshit crazy things i hear coming out of the mouths of christians [more paul than jesus]
There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. I'm not looking to solve anything, it is God who will solve things. Yes the Bible is "open" to interpretation but God wrote it with only one interpretation in mind and so it only has one correct interpretation. I have never ever said I was the arbitrator of what the Bible says, God is. No. :smilielol5: So? Yep. What? Why in the world would God give different interpretations? If two people ask you when the next bus is coming why would you tell them different times? So one will miss the bus and the other won't? I don't begrudge God anything. Yes, Martin Luther initiated the protestant reformation, how does that make him the great reformer? Reformer of what? The Catholic Church? "MY" version of history is that true Christianity has never needed reforming and thus Martin Luther is not some "great reformer" of Christianity.
This is just another example of people relying on what others say and not knowing what the Bible actually says. This video is the big video of lies and clearly discredits itself and exposes itself by not knowing what the Bible even says.
God, in the Bible, has clearly stated how he wants to worshiped, so why do people feel it's okay to worship God any way they feel like?
Bull Shit! My mother was a Sunday School teacher, I went to church and read the bible regularly until I was a teenager... I know exactly what the bible is, a manipulating, fear mongering, racists, sexist, lying book of hateful shit! If you bible guys say this video is flawed then explain his errors instead of just putting it down. Where is the lie, in this Bible story God lied. This is an absolutely clear fact, the biblical God is a LIAR! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQBDGMj2h-c"]YouTube - In the beginning, God created injustice‏
oh em gee good load that's circular the head of your statement nips at its own tail it may swallow itself
I should quote you: "I find that most of my time spent here, is spent correcting the mistaken ideas most people have about what the Bible says.." Being how men wrote it, it was not written with one mind. I should quote you again: I find that most of my time spent here, is spent correcting the mistaken ideas most people have about what the Bible says.. There are interpretations that are not the same as yours. The reason there are many denominations is there are many interpretations. The bible is not a bus schedule. No one knows the hour. The holy spirit speaks to people in terms that they will understand. I've seen children taught about christianity through nursery songs. Really, seems you don't want god to speak to individuals in a private way. Not all men can live by these precepts, some are eunuchs from birth, some are made eunuchs by men, and some make themselves eunuchs for god. In what guise did this true chritianity appear? Was it at Ephesus or Corinth or Galatia? There was debate and confusion from the very beginning, even among those who were contemporary with jesus. I would actually be inclined to concur with that statement if I didn't recognize that the true christianity you are talking about is just another version of the same garbled theology. Regardless, you make a fair enough statement of personal perspective. As far as needing reformation we must pick up our cross daily, but historically, the reformation was in regard of catholic practice.
Because they believe that the bible is evidence and that if you read the "evidence" you might believe. It would be like a non-believer saying to a Christian, "If you don't believe in evolution, you must not have read Darwin's 'Theory of Evolution."
