If you had to leave the US forever, what would you miss?

That's just pop culture of today.

Yes, it is culture... but we should have the ability, as individuals, to go deeper than that by reaching into our own minds, or does the point-and-click age take away all the imagination... frankly, I think that's one's own responsibility.

I believe that looking at other countries cultures is not lazy, and looking beyond what the media hypes is not lazy.

I would ask you to not make assumptions on character as you couldn't possibley make a correct assumption. I am avoiding that and you can too.

Like I said "Some of the underground stuff is good, for sure" is NOT lumping all american culture into one sum.

By hollywood, I ment overhyped films, not just hollywood. Like those Will Ferall films.

If you think most usa citizens are walmart hopping, that is your outlook, I never said that and don't even see things that way.

I have been digging, I do have to shift through quite a bit of fodder, and have found some nice gems, got it? Thats what I have been saying, I wouldn't say that is lazy, I strive to find cultured things.

I acknowledge the gems, but remain firm that European culture, with its share of crap (but less of it) is more cultured and varied. and thus, I would easily leave US culture behind.

Sometimes all you need is to be stranded in the woods somewhere or something to sort of feel that. I'd have no problem with this country if I never had to look at the tv or deal with anything with the initials "D.C." in it

lol. it's their sitcoms and People magazine. people are the same the world over: fascinating and varied from town to town. just don't forget that america isn't a homogenous society or culture, either.

 

All places are equally favorite really when they include a white sand beach, palmtrees and hot Thai ladyboys.

Of course European culture is more varied. Europe is an entire continent with hundreds of languages and ethnic groups. But can you name me 6 great non Almodovar Spanish films off the top of your head?

i'm more interested in what locals everywhere do to unwind and entertain themselves. it's really neat. a whole new language crops up for every area and every activity.

 

many many cultures across teh US. you take the time to explore the vast land of this country and you'll see plenty of culture.

at times i really wish i had documents my bike trip better. but i can assure you that the cultures across this country are quite robust and engaging. and i'd put it up against cultures over in europe any day of the week
