They are already cutting down the rain forest to grow soy beans. The vast majority of soy beans grown are used for animal feed. About 83% world wide go to animals. So if we stop raising animals for food then there would be more than enough soy for humans.

My "hippiness" was just picked up from my family. a lot of the younger hippies today are born into a hippie life style, but they don't have the benefit of being born when the "true hippies" were around. These kids buy into the stereotype because it's their only possible way of expressing to others what they are about, and they just don't know better. Now others are just in it for the fashion and to be cool, but no worries the trend will die soon enough. Under all the trend in a neo hippie there is a true hippie living on. Now I wasn't there in the 60s and 70s, but I could probably make a valid argument that a chunk of the hippies in that time were in it for the trend. A lot of them were just unmotivated and had no interest in the world around them. Don't tell me you never gave into some trends as a child, we should be glad that they're not idolizing that scene style or whatever. By the way I love pretending I'm older than 16, nothing I presented was factual, just my point of view.:p

Yeah but alot of neo hippies are from rich upper middle class families playing dress up. After they realise that in their heart that greedy capitalist upbringing they have is imprinted on their filty soul and there isn't enough water to wash it off they go back to the greedhead ways that they have allways known. Oh well.

    Peace Out,

I don't see how it makes it more valid to be a hippie when your parents were original hippies? Anyone who genuinly feels he/she's a hippie is one from my point of view. Smoking pot, wearing tiedye, caring for the environment and helping your fellow human out does not make you a hippie unless you yourself think it's fitting.

Define hippie. I define it as people who want to change the world.

    Is this you?

Nah, Hippies were there. 60's , 70's is even legit. And even some of those cats were yippies (scene kids).

There are no new hippies. It was a once in a lifetime flowering of ideas and rebelion and aspirations for peace that can not be duplicated by having dirty feet and boycotting walmart while you toke up and listen to "turn, turn, turn"

That's not a good definition I think. It would include lots of people who don't seem nor want to be perceived as a hippie.

Yes, but I exclude most people who do want to be percieved as hippies so it levels out. ;)

Oldheads, please don't take offence. In my own dickest way I'm defending your scene. You don't see me calling out fake goth kids or emo squrits or fake metalheads or hipsters.

Cause I don't give a shit about them, their whole scenes are lame anyway.

    :p

I should've quoted the imaginary being, cause that's the definition I ment:

This would make everyone who want to change the world a hippie. Rather generalizing I'd say.
Anyway, I agree when you say hippies are the persons who were part of the counterculture in the 60's indeed, but if someone nowadays feels the urge to join, conform or try to restart this subculture or genuinely feels to be a hippie I'd say let this person be a hippie.
