    That's so dumb.

Anything can be compared to anything. Saying that one thing is way better than another is comparing them.

I've never understood why people say that.

But uh, I'd much rather have Justin Bieber wrapped in a latex cocoon and shoved up my anus, than for you to resurrect Cobain. Please consider.

Dude, it's like comparing Pink Floyd to Tupac. It can't be done. They belong to two different genres.

    Is comparison.

A comparison is a measurement of one object in relation to another. Contrast is the biggest measure of how alike things are.

I mean, think about when you are comparing the location of two places - the biggest factor is the distance. Distance is a measure of contrast.

When comparing HD's quality to standard definition, you are measuring how much better one is than the other. Once again, contrast.

If two things were exactly the same, there would not be much to compare.

If you didn't know either, and I were to list ways that Tupac and Pink Floyd were similar, it would tell you so much less about each one, then if I were to list the ways they are different.

When it comes to music, pointing out obvious differences in genre and/or style is different than comparing the quality of the music. It's a given that people will prefer one over the other, but that is based on preference; not quality or talent. It's totally subjective.

Personally, I can't stand Justin Bieber, but that's not to say his music shouldn't be enjoyed by someone else. Different tokes for different folks, as I always say:tongue:

I would agree, but I would say that that's because comparing the quality is independent of the genre completely =P
I'm so sick of this argument.

If it's all preference, then I don't prefer your answer. Does this make it any less or more true?

Yes, comparing the quality is definitely independent of the genre, but everyone prefers a different genre, so we may see one type of music as being better, just because it is part of our preferred genre.

hahahaha You can be sick of the argument, but it's still true. That being said, you are entitled to your preferences/opinions. That is the beauty of music/art; there is something for everyone:)

No. There's no such thing as true. It's all belief.

No. I talk as if judging something more objectively than one does when picking preferences is possible.

You talk as if there is no such thing as general consensus, thinking objectively, talent, quality, or absolute truths.

    Edit:

Have you people never heard something that wasn't quite your thing, and still been able to appreciate the talent or skill or thought behind it?

Just because certain musicians/artists aren't popular among a certain group of people doesn't mean they aren't talented. I'm not a fan of Justin Bieber, but that doesn't mean he isn't talented. It's just not my type of music. It doesn't mean he isn't a talented vocalist or that other people shouldn't like his music. The only problem I have with him is that he's being paid millions of dollars for singing lyrics that were written by other people. lol

There is no talent if the only way to judge music is preference.
It's the ability to do something well, to do it with quality.

Eh, producers and rappers make millions of dollars by using other people's music.
He still has to perform it.
They still have to make it work for their purposes.

I think this is something we get too hung up on, really. We don't diss actors for using someone else's script =P

Oh I have no problem in saying that he does what he does with talent and quality. It's just not my type of music and I'm basically tired of hearing about him. lol It seems beaver fever is everywhere and it gets annoying. He's definitely a talented vocalist though, which is what I've been trying to say; just because you don't like a person or their music doesn't mean that you can't admit that they are talented.

That's why I like old school Three Six Mafia shit, unlike Lil Wayne's bitch ass who doesn't even write a lot of his lyrics. Three Six Mafia makes their own beats and their lyrics were fuckin AMAZING back in the 90's.

Good point about the actors though, definitely.

I'd say who, but I saw a thread where he didn't know that Germany was a country.

Assuming his geography acumen is in step with his musical prowess, then I'd say it's ok. I didn't know Germany was a country either.
