Hello, let's pray to the spaghetti monster that we don't get submerged in hairy gorilla leg pics now . Regards Gyro
Also... I am sort of tired of hearing about meaningful jobs, and amazing, good, poor underpaid people that do them. Ooooo my job is super meaningful...ngaf.
Me too. Also about how it is advertised to everyone that it should be challenging. Some people just need a freaking job, period.
It's an ego thing, I guess. I'm all for financial security and making money, but the words "meaningful jobs" make me cringe. Making a good living doing a meaningless job is cool too, if it makes you happy. What is meaningful anyways?
Hello, I think it is meant as meaningful with resp. to the one who do the job. People value different things different. Some people value money high, to them a meaningful job might be one, that earns them a fuckton of money. For others meaningful means helping people. I guess there is no general consensus what a meaningful life is. Reards Gyro
In the end it is subjective, after the primary needs are covered that is. Because essentially earning the bread for your own table seems meaningful enough Depends how they feel about their spare time I guess :-D Personally I dislike the words 'spare time' and also 'hobby' as well. Like it is leftover time or something and a hobby is something to fill it with (like collecting stamps). I know, it is all between the ears...
Hello, yes, no . I mean your life can be meaningful without a job. I liked most of the jobs I had very very much. You spend many hours of the day with your job, sometimes more than half of the day, so you better like it. Usually I find people annoying who complain all day long how shitty their job is and all they are doing is to wait until the next weekend start so they have some 'freedom'. I think it's more, hmm, honnest (?) to quit and find something better than. Regards Gyro
Your reply has little to do with what I was saying. People who usually brag about how meaningful their jobs are, tend to treat certain other jobs as meaningless. Some have to have jobs that are "oh so important", and some enjoy jobs like being a stylist, an interior designer, a model, or a football player (these jobs are mostly dimissed as meaningless). Anyways, I never really said anything about sticking to a job that you don't like. I was talking about the snobby attitude.
Hello, hm, I have no idea . In the last week of august I attend a conference. I don't think, I will start a new job before that conference. Regards Gyro
My job is as dumb as fuck, but I get paid, well I wont tell you what I get paid Meaningful jobs, screw that A government job is where its at, spent half the day the other day in my office watching Game of Thrones
Hello, I worked for the government, as a regular staff member and as a consultant, so I know what you are talking about . My colleagues were great and I hadn't work too hard, so the money was OK. But on the long term it wasn't challenging enough for me, the descision process was too long-winding etc. Regards Gyro
Thats the stuff I love, takes 10 people to make a decision, no one ever sticks their neck out, politics in one way, but no having to form little alliances Id say 20% of my time is filling out paperwork ive already filled out half a dozen times beforehand...whilst watching illegally downloaded TV
personally i have always distrusted the stress of making its persuit a priority. different people regret different things, because we are all different. i don't believe one person can all that well predict what another person will or won't.
Government jobs really are where its at...my brother works for the government and I'm not even sure he ever has to go to work. He gets paid time off for every little meaningless holiday in existence and it seems like he takes every other Monday off as a sick day or "mental health day" and never gets in trouble for it.
Hello, yeah, that's not my cup of tea. I can remember one case where we needed to come to a decision about a project. Several departments had something to say in that project. One guy wasn't reachable by phone. So we scheduled a meeting, guy didn't show up. We scheduled another meeting, guy didn't show up again. As it turned out he always called in sick. He just refused to make a decision about the project and there was no real leverage to make him do his job. In the end the project was delayed by weeks. The external consultants were happy about the extra money they got for staying a few weeks longer . Regards Gyro
