That's true. For instance, when I see a young black dude, I automatically assume that he likes rap music, which may not be the case, but most people just make that assumption. This is a form of racism. It is not intended to offend anyone, but most people make these types of assumptions about different races.

yeah, the little things, insidious little thoughts in your head that you don't really know are there until it's pointed out. it's not necessarily mean-natured or ugly, it's just a pattern recognition that is incorrect and requires adjustment.

I don't stereotype much at all
I was suprised to learn my one black friend liked rap, from what I knew, he was more of an oldies type of dude

you know, you can't usually talk about this sort of thing around people without at least one person claiming they're innocent of all pigeon-holing. hell, you can't talk about this topic to anyone without someone getting really angry or at the very least extremely uncomfortable.

why is it that directly facing our personal failings is so hard? i'm of the general opinion that most people are basically good, just trying to get by the best they can while causing the least damage they can. a lot of times is simple ignorance of what they could be doing better that stops them from doing the right thing. everyone has something bad about them, but most of us choose to ignore our personal failings because they're so hard to accept. deep down most of us KNOW we're okay, we try so hard to be good. but every now and then you get slapped in the face by some ugly truth about yourself and it's time to look it square in the eye and address it. yeah, there's some real fuck-heads out there, but to be honest, i typically consider them mentall ill. still a menace to society to be dealt with, but not inherently evil.

hah, you really got me wrong
    I just said I don't stereotype
I kinda grew out of it

how come any time you talk about not having a certain fault, you are in denial
but anytime you talk about a fault, you are being hard on yourself, or you have self esteem issues?

I have many problems, not admitting my problems is not one of them.

it was more a philisophical take on something i've been thinking about lately that you reminded me of, not a specific attack. i was reminded of something i felt a few years ago in regards to a friend of mine that was a shock to me and i've been thinking on it lately. i'd avoided the issue at the time, and it's taken me this long, seeing a real meltdown, as opposed to my personal thoughts at one time, that reminded me of it. i'm sure you've grown out of any number of things. i'm still working on it.

...My question is why are we still obsessing about race? If we'd stop segregating ourselves, racism would be a lot less of a problem. It's one thing to be proud of your heritage, but aren't we all just people? What does skin color matter anyway? I hate how people tend to refer to anyone but caucasian people with their skin color in front of their gender. It doesn't matter, we're all humans, and that's what counts.

So, from what I understand these people had been giving him shit for some time throughout his routine. They finally get to him and he goes off on them, and calls them niggers.

Now, if you or I were in the same situation...how would we react?

I personally have gone off on people when they've gotten under my skin. I've said far worse things to people than Michael Richards has EVER said. His only crime is choosing some unfortunate words to use, and probably being in a rage because they were fucking up his act. Again...if someone came to your job and gave you shit for a while...how much could you stand and how would you react?

This all boils down to words, at least for me. Words can be very powerful but those words can only have as much power as you let them have.

You can call me a fat, bald cracker all day long. I seriously doubt it would get to me. They're only words.

I think it's kind of sad that he has ONE BAD MOMENT and some people are calling for his career and his head on a platter. Whatever happened to the benefit of the doubt and second chances?

You'd think the african-american community would have bigger concerns than something a comic said.

    don't blame the african-american community
it is the whole "equal rights"/politically correct state of mind
everyone wiht a brain knows that the extent our "equal rights" go to causes discrimination
you can't have an all white work force, what if you can only find white people that are qualified for the job?
    it's ridiculous

and the way the media acts, like we should feel guilty, that some hicks over a hundred years ago, bought some black slaves from OTHER black people and treated them like shit
fuck that, my family was still in Europe at this point, I'm not even descended from these people
and even if they were, why the fuck should we carry sins of our fathers?

the jews were slaves a lot longer than the blacks, you don't see Egyptians treating them all special
we treat blacks like endangered animals, when, I see white skin going a lot faster (in over a hundred years from now, but still)

blacks today are not enslaved, and whites today are not enslaving, let it the fuck go
