Sell-Out: Senate Illegal Alien Amnesty Bill Capitulates to Every Special Interest Demand

WASHINGTON, May 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The immigration bill unveiled yesterday by the Senate, which would grant amnesty to virtually every illegal alien in the country, plus an unknown number of their relatives, amounts to a complete sell-out of the interests of the American public, declared the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). The Senate bill, S. 1348, includes immediate and irrevocable benefits for tens of millions of illegal aliens, access to low-wage foreign labor for business interests, and nothing but more worthless promises to the American public that the government would enforce immigration laws in the future.

S. 1348, which the Senate is expected to vote on as early as Monday, was hammered out behind closed doors, bypassing the hearings process or any assessment of the fiscal, labor market or environmental impact. The bill would grant amnesty to nearly every illegal alien in the United States as well as children and elderly parents who may be residing outside the country. Within 24 hours of filing an application, illegal aliens would be granted work authorization and relief from possible deportation, without any background checks. In addition, the legislation calls for the admission of 400,000 additional "guest workers" plus their dependent family members each year, some of whom will be permitted to remain permanently.


"In agreeing to this bill, the United States Senate has broken every promise that has been made to the American people," charged Dan Stein, president of FAIR. "The bill reneges on promises that amnesty would never again be offered to people who are in this country illegally; it violates commitments that Congress has made to protect the interests of American workers; and it compromises the security of this nation by granting legal status to people who may pose a threat to the nation. Adding to the betrayal, this surrender of the public interest was negotiated by senators who had personally pledged, as recently as last year, never to agree to any bill that includes amnesty."

The provisions of the bill that call for tougher immigration enforcement in the future were described by FAIR as "worthless and an insult to the intelligence of the American public." The 2007 version of immigration reform contains the identical set of promises to secure the borders, establish a verifiable worker identification system, and enact penalties for employers who hire illegal aliens that Congress and successive administrations have made and broken countless times over the past 20 years.

"The security and enforcement provisions are less than meaningless. They will either not be funded, endlessly delayed, or ignored all together," Stein declared. "While tens of millions of illegal aliens will reap rewards and enjoy access to the courts to appeal any denial of benefits, the American public gets shafted with no avenue for appeal."

FAIR is calling upon the Senate to delay voting on S. 1348 until the bill receives a full public hearing, and until a thorough study of its impact is completed. "This is a bill that will quite literally affect the future of this nation. Its ramifications deserve more than a weekend's review on the part of the people who will vote on it," said Stein.

I think the problem is that not enough people want the police state and the massive security operation that would be required to uproot and forcibly repatriate millions of Mexican families.

Lots of people moan about it, but they still depend on Mexicans and other illegal immigrants to provide the cheaper services they feel entitled to.

Besides if i'm already there he's got to accept the fact that having a better house than most requires him to allow other guys in the neighborhood to enjoy his big screen, sleep with his wife, and eat his cheetos.

Especially since i mowed his lawn that one time and the tip sucked(of course he never asked me to mow his lawn in the first place but so not the point).

Think of my kids man! they would love his pool, and what with being kids and all, they kind of deserve what his kids have, not things like his kids have, but what his kids literally have, his kids don't appreciate that stuff anyway and my kids have been playing with those toys all evening, he can't take those from them now, it would just be plain wrong.

I mean sure, i could just fix the plumbing in my house and get some new locks, maybe take some night classes for a better education and get a decent job, hell it's not like he hasn't been leaving envelopes of cash on my front door for the last couple weeks to help out with that stuff, but HIS HOUSE IS RIGHT NEXT DOOR and his wife doesn't believe in security systems!

we should hold mexico and the rest accountable, close the borders, punish those government when they can't keep their citizens from trespassing onto our soil( maybe by stop sending funds their way).

again, if you woke up tomorrow morning and caught a stranger stealing from your wallet and eating from your fridge, would you invite him to stay because he watered your plants while he was breaking and entering, or would you kick him out, give his description to the cops and then get a new lock?

as if being a worker is something unusual.
everyone is a worker! even bank robbers are workers(try robbing a bank from your couch). unless you're collecting on unemployment or mooching off of your parents or cheating welfare you are a worker. it's part of the cost of living. selling your time and labor for cash isn't unusual among 6 billion people.

and do people honestly believe that "they do the work no else wants" is a reason to legalize them?

they do that kind of work because a) 1/2 of them don't have a high school education b) they are willing to work for significantly less cash, mostly because our standard of livving is much better than what they are used to and c) they are criminals and reputable well paying companies would rather not hire criminals.

What makes you think that after you legalize them they will still keep mowing your lawn, babysitting your kids, and building your houses?

why would they?

they do those jobs because they don't have the legal ability or education required to do any other, not because they enjoy grueling work for shit pay.

once they become legalized they are eligible for the same benifits that you are: overtime pay, paid holidays, 401k, social security, minimum wage, unemployment, medicare, medicaid, food stamps...

look for your taxes to spike.

look for an increase in socialist federal and state programs to handle 6-12 million(at first) newly naturalized high school dropouts who want to collect on social security and medicaid as they become legal just in time to retire.

The same is true for drugs - by your logic, drug users aren't drug users, they are criminals. We can't legalise drugs because then we would be rewarding all these criminals.

Why can't they find work in Mexico? Are US taxpayers to support their corrupt failing nation. I've personally competed to do the work they do and work with them. And I am demanded to know their language as well as my own. Yet they have no pressure put on them to learn English? But our administration and the wealthy corporate bosses in Mexico want this. Ever ask yourself why? It's not just for cheap labor to watch your kids and mow your lawns.

 

Why is it they spend more time and effort protesting in the US than they do in Mexico. But we should send Social Security checks to Mexico when they retire. Change your own homeland before you tell me to change mine! In Mexico they couldn't afford to take a day off to protest and they would risk being shot by their government. But here they receive unemployment, free medical, preschool and education. What benefits do workers receive in Mexico?

I was here in 1985 when we granted amnesty. Made a huge difference didn't it. You now have to fill out an I9 before employment. This bill will be even worse. I was working in an office then in personnel, we attended meetings that outlined exactly what you ask for and what you couldn't. All the I9 did was slow things down a little because you had to view documents, no employer was ever ask to verify the legitimatcy of the documents shown.

 

If you can't compete in the job market against someone with an elementary school education who can't speak english, who the employer has to actually break the law to hire, you seriously need some skills bro.

 

I have a degree in ornamental horitculture, but if the labor force can converse with me, they can't perform the services of the employer. Doesn't mean I am inferior, means the employer is seeking to exploit a labor pool that has to be accomodated. So don't get big shit on me. What exactly is it you do for a living? Are you multi-lingual?
