In male prisons...

Just to clarify something......just because I've trained to fight doesn't mean that I do or want to or am a mean person or anything like that. I just want to make sure I didn't give the wrong impression. I would never want to hurt anyone unless it was in my own defense or the defense of someone else.

 

When the violence is justified it feels much better anyway

 

I hit my brother in the mouth with a crutch when we were kids. Punctured a hole in his lip with a wing nut. Didn't mean to do that but I felt justified at the time. But I felt bad about it later. But damn.....I told him if he didn't shut up I was going to hit him in the mouth with my crutch.

 

I'm a female and I've only been to a female county jail-not prison but I know plenty of guys who have been in jails and prisons. From what they have all told me it's greatly exaggerated. Obviously not to say it doesn't happen but that I've personally never known anyone to have an issue with it and they all say the same thing-greatly exaggerated. I was watching Lock Up a bit ago and remember some guy talking about rape in prisons to the producers of the show and he was saying (whether this is true or not, don't know really... it makes a certain sort of sense but anyways it's just what he said) that because homosexuality is more out in the open now-less people afraid to come out that most guys with super long sentences (often life) that are in there that in the past would have maybe done things by force really don't so much anymore because they can easily find plenty of people willingly. (Of course that doesn't account for other reasons that ppl rape in general-- the fact that it's not about sex, but about control).... so there will always be psychos that would do it anyways....

Another thing is, the more I think about it....seeing some stats that other people have given (hotwater.... 1 out of 10 having this happen to them).... I really think it would vary from prison to prison. Depending on all kinds of things... what security is like there-how much free time in certain spots the inmates have, etc.... as well as things like just what area of the country it's in and whether it's a relatively good prison, bad prison or in between...

 

Me and some friends I made in one of the female jails I've been to used to have these two male CO's who would flirt with us all the time... but not in a scary way.... in a kinda just silly, fun way. They would bring us meds too that we weren't rx'd... like benzoes and stuff to help us sleep.

Anyways, point is I know the guards can be corrupt---- not by the book.... but at least in my experiences anyways there was never anything aggressive in any way....

With us having been locked down 23 hours a day though... a lot of things in that jail would have been hard.

 

K, yea, so after reading this whole thread... well, first of all you guys had me sitting here thinking "Oh God, I hope my husband or son never have to go to prison" (my husband has been to county jail before, not prison. He thinks the same thing I thought about it... it's just boring really, not scary.) But anyways I know prison is different.

But really what I am thinking more than anything after reading the rest of this thread is... that even when I went to jail before (not prison), I am still glad I am a female so obviously in a female jail, not a male one. The mentality is totally different between male and female jails and prisons.

Two summers ago when I went to jail (first time... other than holding cell/getting bailed out that day) I started off in one jail and then got transferred to another county. In any case, I remember years ago a girl friend of mine telling me that county jail (around here at least and for females anyways) is really just like girl scout camp. And I ended up years later going to the exact jail she was talking about when she said that and it was exactly like girl scout camp...
I was in the gymnasium (overflow) with over 100 girls and bunk beds... not locked into any cell... just ...the gym. We had all kinds of fun things to do in there and could go anywhere in there and just hang out with people- it was kinda fun. We had all kinds of board games, books, couches, chairs, exercise equipment... all of it just available all the time and we just had to be my our bunks three times a day for role call. (Well, bracelet scan.)

We just had A LOT of fun there and pretty much all the girls got along... the only sex I saw there def had two willing participants. And there was just a lot of flirting all over and just girls being silly....

The next jail I got transferred to was the one that we were ALL (min security COUNTY JAIL) in lock down in our 1 or 2 person cells 23 hours a day...every day. Sometimes, every other weekend, diff sides of the pod would be locked down for 46 hours.... not for any punishment/disciplinary.... just...that's how they did things there- they had major cleaning going on and just didn't wanna let people out. Not even to shower.)--- anyways wasn't NEARLY as fun there but still not scary in any way. Just boring. Lots of relationships/couples.. which I thought was silly simply because these people very rarely even got to actually see each other/be together.

But anyways I think girl's jails and prisons are so much better than the male version.

I mean I could HEAR the males fighting every few days from the female side. Only saw one ....very mild... fight in the female area... Males throw their urine and feces in jails.... girls just really don't do that. Girls just have it so much better off.

 

I’ve seen all of those women in jail movies and it looks like one big slumber party with girls running around in panties and halter tops, male guards who take too many liberties, group showers, and of course the bull-dyke who hits on all the fresh meat. :2thumbsup:

Yea, I've heard some crazy things about CO's in other prisons. Okay, example, maybe a year ago I heard that in Baltimore County Prison (county jail) that there was one particular male CO that slept with 5 different female prisoners AND get this.... he got two of the girls pregnant. And he was bringing heroin into the jail.

Anyways.... haha all those stereotypical things about female prisons can go out the window to an extent if you get thrown in a locked down type of facility... not much time for anything (just hope you have a good cellie... which I did actually. Two of them. Had the HUGEST crush on one of them too.... this girl took care of me- Shamanda).....anyways, the gymnasiums really are pretty much the stereotypical things though. I saw a few episodes of a female county jail- gymnasium bunk beds and all and it reminded me pretty much perfectly of what I actually experienced in the first place I went.

I'd rather be a female and just have to deal with (in general) girl sillyness and every straight girl acting gay or bi.... then be a guy and have to deal with poop flinging, threats of rape and all that bs prison racial shit. (having to join prison gangs, etc.... course I'm talking prison w that .... but girls don't have that shit in jail or in prison. Everyone got along where I went.
At worst you meet a few drama queens and girls who think they're jailhouse princesses.

 

I've heard about people in county jail that are crazy and write on the walls of their cell with their shit(yes, real shit). Those people aren't in general population but they take them out of their cells to have the trustees clean the shit off the walls and that's not a task I would wanna do.

Also heard that some people with aids and hepatitis will throw their shit at you so that u catch diseases and shit from it. Idk if u can get aids from someone's shit but hepatitis u can. That's pretty fucked up!

 

Not to be gross (ugh this is gross though), but you def can if someone takes a shit and they have tears up there. Like hemmoroids or if for any reason blood gets in it....

ANY CASE.... Yea, guys do do that shit in county jails. I'm sure females have done it too but it's pretty much a guy thing. There's crazy ass females though....they get taken outta population too..that yell and scream all night long and try to do things like jump off their sink to "kill themselves". Luckily these people get moved, to, typically the same areas as the famous people and the narcs.

 

This day and age, It don't take much if anything to land behind bars. You do what you have to, To survive. Its funny they keep it that way and once you come, You will return until strike 3 and 25 to life.

There never were any rules in any fighting IMO. I was taught that too, Everything around you can be used to inflict harm. That's where the fine line of knowing martial arts is a downfall as the look at you and say, You should have known better.
But they were not there to see what happened, So defense looks like aggression when a guy comes at you and you take him out of commission and on to the next!
But id rather be an alive in the pen mother fucker, Than 6ft under from lack of fighting back and or excessive force.
Its an art that is to protect and mental/physical exercise, Never to be used as an aggressor. But some people are wired wrong and learn the art to hurt. Sounds like you took it for the correct reasons!



A knife vs a baseball bat, Depends on which way the weapons are. I know for sure you coming at me with a bat and I have a blade, Ill not only cut ya good, But take the bat and show you some batting practice.
If I had a bat, Best bet is to use it to sweep the legs first as they wont see that coming and continue to the upper body. But a bat, I would never, Unless have to, Above the neck.

Its nothing to dwell on and focus on 'what if'. But in the same sense, It should be common sense to put some thought into 'what if' situations. I live in BFE, Still don't make the nut balls any mellower. If you have a family and kids, I carry, But its something to think about.
The people who are going to rob/rape/kill etc are felons already and if they get caught, Its sending them home. They don't care and are scum anyway.

 

well yeah. more people communicate than go around starting fights, seems like a good thing to me.

it's not like it takes a lot of effort to learn how to press a series of numbers on a phone anyway.

I've always told younger students..."It seems like we are here to learn how to fight. We are. But much more importantly...we are here to learn how to not fight. Being able to not fight is more powerful than being able to fight". But at the same time, I think to myself....just in case...I'm going to make sure you know how to seriously fuck someone up. And I'm perfectly ok with using anything available as a weapon as long as we meet force with only enough force to win. If a guy outweighs me by 100 lbs and I have a baseball bat? I'm going to use it but I think the rules have to change in prison. You can get jumped and raped by 4 or 5 guys. I think you have to have a different mentality in that situation.....one I hope to never experience.

 

starting fights and defending yourself is very different. if you thrown in the system you will defend yourself, got no choice.

if someone thinks they are the same.. honestly they have no idea what they are talking about.

Sure all these guys have told me the same thing- the thing EVERYONE who has been to jail knows.... just mind your own damn business in there. Don't fuck w people. Don't be disrespectful... worry bout your own shit.... and every single guy I've known that has been to jail and followed that code has been fine.

true, but a lot more people have to use phones than get thrown into the system, so i still think it's logical that more people can dial than fight.

 

That's a pretty good set of rules just for life in general. Just mind your own business. My problem has always been when people get bullied and pushed around for no reason. I'm not ok with that and I'll say something. Outside of the ring...I've never been in a fight that I started, never been in one I lost and almost all of them have been because I won't stand by and see someone get beat for no reason.

But in prison...I'd have to assume I would just mind my own business and look out for myself.
