In male prisons...

Family, Friends and family friends who all served time in a state and federal institution. Most all agreed on all points, But federal time is solitaire or at least the two I know that went to federal pens.

 

Kay... I've been to county jail. My husband has been to county jail... including for a month in inner city Philadelphia. A lot of guy friends have been to county jail.

And they all say the same thing that I as a female was told before jail... just do you. Worry about yourself and mind your own business and you'll be fine.

None of them were in any fights in jail.

Nor was I.

Nor did I see any fights in there. I saw one girl slap another.

The guys I know who have been to jail have seen some fights there.. yes, they have. But only one or two a month and it was people who didn't....mind their own damn business and do their own time.

So... have you been to jail? How long and what jail?

I SAID that what I was saying (said this over and over!) doesn't apply to federal prison and that everything I was referring to....about people trying to do their time and go home, etc.... all of it....was NOT about prison but about county jail.

 

any serious confrontation is probably gonna have consequences for you. for me, im a little scrawny motherfucker, so i'd have to fight real dirty. i could fuck someone up too, and cause serious bodily injury and get a couple new charges to keep me in there even longer than the original sentence. then they'd know i didnt give a fuck and i'd get more "respect" but there's always the chance that someone would still try and test just how far i would go, up to the point of killing them.

if ur doing short time its probably not worth it, u just suck it up, and get to go home..just dont let anyone else know ur doing short time cuz they they'll know u probably just wanna go home and don't want any serious consequences.

they're gonna test u in the beginning to see if ur a bitch, and ir u are then they know that they can make u a source of entertainment for them by making your life miserable.

ive been in a few different county jails and one time this dude got released and when he did he took a bible from my bunk and gave it to this other dude. so I saw that this dude had my bible and i confronted the dude about it and he said that his homie gave it to him. it was some bullshit, and it turned into a tussle which i ended up gettin in trouble for (him too). at first i thought he just took that shit, and why didnt he just say that he took my shit but i eventually figured out that that other dude really did take it and give it to that guy just cuz he knew it would end up starting some shit, and he didn't really know where the guy got it but it sure pissed him off when i accused him of stealing it.

 

No, Was referring to the knowledge I have obtained on the subject. I know the two are vastly different, not arguing that point. Looking at months vs years, Many differences and mindsets.

 

Ok, fine.

My point that I have tried to illustrate is prison life is yet another topic in which half the fucking world of people who have never been are friggin' experts on the topic.


I wish sometime people had enough self knowledge and honesty to be able to say "I don't know" rather than spouting off half baked bullshit mostly derived from fiction like movies and TV.
Religion is another topic with a world full of experts who haven't got a friggin' clue.


and as of yet, not one single person posting in this thread has claimed to have done time in federal prison, so you all be talking out your asses when you start saying it's thus and so and talking in absolutes.

Yea I think we were misunderstanding each other somewhere along the way.

For some reason I thought you and maybe someone else were trying to say county was like that and not just federal prison....
I don't think we were really disagreeing on anything at all-just confusion at times over whether the other was talking about jail or prisons.

 

To put it this was ... if I was a guy and I was looking at jail time, not too worried.

If I was a guy looking at prison time, I wouldn't be happy at all. Obviously diff guys have diff prison experiences (largely depending on the prison), but in general I would not be happy about the thought of prison gangs and being surrounded by murderers doing life.
In that way, females (in prison) def have it better.

 

but isn't that just yet another assumption?
I've never been so I don't have any clue which would be worse, mens or womens.

Sure, but I think it's an educated assumption based on many, many things.

The fact that there is violence and prison gangs in male prisons is well known. Not everyone will experience it obviously but those things do exist and occur in percentages that are much higher than in female prisons. Just in general...females are less likely to be involved in gangs and fighting. Females are more likely to get involved in pseudo relationships and.or family units in prisons and yea, those things can lead to some drama and fighting occasionally, I'm sure.

But in general, females don't respond with violence in life nearly as much as males. They are just wired differently and thus it is that men are more likely to fight in life... that would carry over to prison life. Sure, a female in prison could run into a tough bully wanting a fight. But I don't think I'd be wrong to go with it's less likely then with males...
If you think about how many males are in prison for violent crimes including murder... compared to what most females are there for- females in general commit less violent crimes on the outside and it would carry over...

On a smaller scale, although most guys aren't gonna have to get in fights in jail, there ARE more fights in county jails on the men's side than the women's side. So I don't think it's pushing it too far to assume that that trend would carry over to prison.

So, back to my answer... what I believe is an educated assumption.

Yeah, some valid assumptions, but remember all the gangs you hear about in prison have female members as well and gangs exist in women's prisons too.
