You are on a witch hunt for Christian it sounds like. You don't forget the past but you can not hold a religion or ethnicity accountable for all you dissatisfactions. Christians are not the root of all evil. If you are going to remember the past, remember the entire past. Why are there few Christian people in the Middle East? You might want to look into conquistadors... or pirates of the Barbary coast who took people into slavery. Or how about the numbers killed in the Afghan war in the name of Islam?, What was it? 80 million plus murdered? And let's not forget that hitler admired and partnered with the Islamic brotherhood because he admired their ability of butchery.

They do account for it and when you are a part of a congregation you can check off which charities you want to support. They have women's shelters, drug and alcohol addiction programs etc... They have celebrations as well with that money. They don't pay taxes because it is a religion. Same rights go for other religious temples or places of worship. Not just Christianity. Not sure why you take exception to this?

The church clearly doesn't tell you anything and you are misinformed. No one in the church believes it was right... not all priest molest children but some will have you think this. Most people are good, every faith has bad apples. they were hiding the molestation, moving them as well, getting them away from children. which clearly this is out in the open,don't condemn an entire belief system people choose to follow. Most people just follow the rule of treating others as you want to be treated and Christians are not happy that evil men within the church did this. At least it is out in the open. Can't say the same for other religions who hide a lot of what goes on behind closed doors.

You are really going to talk about sacrificing sheep at one time? You have sympathy for dead sheep a thousand years ago? It was symbolic at one time. And slavery, who do you think was the biggest culprits of slavery? Christians were not the only ones who did it and were not the biggest culprit. you might want to check the numbers on that and who is more evil because it seems you want to place the blame at one mans door and have someone to blame.

She took exception to Michael Servetus. Who was labelled a heretic in Geneva Switzerland back in 1530 and the treatment of Galileo by the church way back for saying the world is round not flat.

And I don't even think these were her people or what her people are. Shrug.

 

Simple answer, when politicians are brought up, what change is to come becomes an issue, issues or platforms that president might take ...like when you pointed out what was a bigger issue... it all snowballed

 

I understand a comment regarding the white protestant majority (or has it become just another big minority already? ) that shaped the US and usually supports the republican president, but not witch burnings, the crusades or a discussion about how bad or good christianity was during the days of Galileo.

It is a very real and common argument over here by very vocal, bullying groups as to why white is bad, Christianity is bad. His comments above I have heard before... even the killing of sheep thousands of years ago is a problem and is put at the door if the white Christian supremacists. That one is new but I am not surprised. Can't believe I even tried with him. He loves his life but wants more... needs to crush something or someone. For what?

The ones like me who just want to go about our day and go home at the end of the day just want to live in peace... accept people for their differences ... just want to get home to families. Not wanting to point the finger. Lay blame. Not wanting to fight every little detail. They are not, we are not as vocal. We don't get a following or a movement.

I know you don't stoop to that level.... but don't worry about it. I will stoop to it now and then to make a point, even though I would never say such things or feel that way.. or feel the need to seperately by skin colour. Whitey is a racist term, and him calling you that does not make you racist, it makes him appear to be. Unfortunately that term is used to shut people down too. Who is the troll in this? He is also in the Netherlands, and something I noticed while there was that words like **** of fuck were not really considered vulgar. So perhaps, giving him the benefit of the doubt, he doesn't know it is a derogatory term. But now he does.

 

Easier to simply turn him off, I have no time for bigots or people with obvious superiority complexes. I take it personal because it was meant to be personal. I try to avoid making any forum discussions personal because it casts a pall on the whole thing. I'm of the opinion that when someone has to do that, they have already given up on substance and are grabbing for tried and true rudeness to "win" the argument. It's like watching people "shout down" others and they gleefully exclaim how they "won". Not on merit, but by using hyperbole and cheap tactics to claim victory.

This guy can't even take his victories well, so I see no point in taking input from him. I can have that sort of discussion on the subway. The result will be equally meaningless.

The last couple of comments between you and Dick would fit better in a PM than here. Everybody here knows Dick likes to push buttons just as much as me, except he does it often with trolling characteristics like off topic remarks, personal insults and lame accussations. I pity him a little. He chickened out (and put me on ignore apparently), used a weak excuse and started some attempts to offend me. Nuff said

Also I must thank you for pointing out the error of my ways, I will try and be conscious of when I should and should not PMS in the future. I am new to this forum and all advice is welcome.

 

Im just saying if you PM me regularly to discuss stuff in these threads that are more about why and how we posted stuff than the actual thread topic (which i assume is partly done to not needlessly derail said threads with personal stuff) maybe do the same with him, also when he starts it.
